The event has taken place every year in Recife since the early 1990s: “it’s just see you later so we can regroup financially”
Promoted every year in Recife since 1993 — with the exception of 2020 and 2021, affected by the Covid-19 pandemic — the festival April Pro Rock there will be no edition in 2025. The decision was announced by the organizers of the Pernambuco event, one of the most traditional of the national underground.
In a statement published on social media, those responsible underline that “the last few years have been difficult for festivals”. The text initially highlights:
“In 2024, in particular, many spaces have closed their operations and events have been postponed or cancelled, due to financial difficulties in maintaining them and other factors such as generational issues.”
Even so, last year the event took place at Clube Internacional do Recife, between March 29th and 30th. Names like Brujeria, Master, Krisiun, Matanza ritual, Korzusamong others.
“We at Abril Pro Rock, even without significant sponsorships, decided to organize the festival because we believe in the strength of the collective. However, some external factors had a negative influence. We were unable to reach the minimum necessary to cover the costs of the project and the impact were great.
In this context, the organizers confirmed the pause. They state:
“We don’t regret the choice we made, as we organized a powerful festival, with powerful bands, we hosted the last show of the Brujeriawith the presence of Brujo and Pinche Peache, shortly before their departure. These images will remain in the hearts of all those who celebrated April 2024. However, it is necessary to take a break. In 2025 we won’t have the festival.”
April Pro Rock: “see you later”
Also in the organization’s text it says that the Abril Pro Rock will not end. The idea is actually simply to take a break to resolve internal problems.
“Don’t take this as goodbye. It’s just see you later. So that we can regroup financially, get stronger and reinvent ourselves. To our loyal audience, keep supporting the real scene, which takes place in small clubs, with crazy Poghi and a festival of stage diving The great bands of that time started somewhere to get to where they are today!

Throughout its history, Abril Pro Rock has hosted performances by artists and bands such as Motörhead, New York Dolls, Chico Science & Nação Zumbi, Helloween, Los Hermanos, Lula Côrtes, O Rappa, Gamma Ray, Raimundos, Skank, Os Paralamas do Sucesso, Planet Hemp, Sepultura, Dead Fish, Shamanamong others.
