The event has taken place annually in Recife since the beginning of the 1990s: “it’s just a see you later so that we can reorganize ourselves financially”
Promoted annually in Recife since 1993 — with the exception of 2020 and 2021, affected by the Covid-19 pandemic — the festival April Pro Rock there will be no edition in 2025. The decision was announced by the organizers of the Pernambuco event, one of the most traditional in the national underground.
In a statement published on social media, those responsible pointed out that “the last few years have been difficult for festivals”. The text initially highlights:
“In 2024, especially, many spaces closed their activities and events were postponed or canceled, due to financial difficulties in holding them and other factors such as generational profile issues.”
Even so, last year the event was held at the Clube Internacional do Recife, between the 29th and 30th of March. Names such as Brujeria, Master, Krisiun, Matanza Ritual, Korzusbetween others.
“We at Abril Pro Rock, even without significant sponsorship, decided to hold the festival because we believe in the strength of the collective. However, some external factors had a negative influence. We were unable to achieve the minimum necessary to cover the project costs and the impact was huge.”
In this context, the organizers confirmed the break. They state:
“We do not regret the choice we made, as we held a powerful festival, with powerful bands, we hosted the last show of the Brujeriawith the presence of Brujo and Pinche Peache, shortly before their departure. These images will be kept in the hearts of everyone who celebrated April 2024. However, it is necessary to take a break. In 2025, we will not have the festival.”
April Pro Rock: “see you later”
Still in the organization’s text, it is said that Abril Pro Rock will not end. The idea is, really, just to take a break to resolve internal issues.
“Don’t take it as goodbye. It’s just a see you later. So that we can reorganize ourselves financially, become stronger and reinvent ourselves. To our loyal audience, continue supporting the real scene, which takes place in small clubs, with insane moshs and a stage dive festival. The great bands, way back when, started somewhere to get to where they are today. Until later!”
