‘I can’t say those words out loud with a smile on my face,’ revealed Pat Benatar
Pat Benatar will stop singing one of the biggest singles of his career, “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”, touring the mass shootings in the United States. The song was part of only two shows, once in February and once in May of this year, being practically absent from their setlist since the beginning of the tour, following information from the setlist.fm.
Out of respect for the victims of the frequent mass shooters who terrorize schools and other crowded places in the United States, the singer will stop performing the song at future shows – whether on or off tour.
To USA Today, benatar made it clear that whoever wants to can continue listening to the music at home. The singer also claimed that many fans are getting angry about this decision, but it seems that she has no intention of going back.
“The title is ironic, but you have to set a limit. I can’t say those words out loud with a smile on my face, I can’t. I’m not going to go up on stage and set up a platform – I talk to my lawyers – but this is my small contribution to the protests. I will not sing. It’s hard,” the singer said.
“Hit Me With Your Best Shot” is one of the biggest hits of Pat Benatar. The track was released on their second studio album, Crimes of Passion(1980) and although the song is not about gunfire, benatar says she is uncomfortable singing it after the recent episodes with firearms in the United States.
Pat Benatar will be decorated in Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame this year.
