The former Van Halen singer even announced a tour in the country, canceled due to the pandemic, and said he wanted to bring a new show to South America
Sammy Hagar he can withdraw from tours without having come to one country: Brazil. The 77-year-old singer admitted he is feeling the effects of age and said he no longer intends to travel long distances to perform.
In an interview with Miami Herald (go Igor Miranda’s website), former member of Van Halen AND Montrose commented on his new initiative to transform the tour “The Best of All Worlds” in a season of shows in Las Vegas. On April 30 and May 2, 3, 7, 9, 10, 14, 16, 17, the musician and his backing band will perform at the same venue, Dolby Live at Park MGM.
According to him, this is an attempt to maintain his career without having to travel much, such as in 2024, when he performed more than 35 shows in North America, as well as three engagements in Japan. The singer said:
“I don’t think I want to tour anymore. I hate to say it, because I don’t want to piss off my fans. I keep telling my manager, ‘Don’t go on tour, let me do this residency.’ If I like it, I’ll do another one. And if this one, if I’m successful, I’ll do another one, and I can squeeze a few more years out of my career.”
According to Hagar, traveling makes the whole experience tiring. Without this component the artist is free to dedicate himself to performances.
“With this I don’t have to travel, I don’t have to empty my bags and then pack them, and fly every day. At my age, my shoulders hurt. And I have to perform. I’m an artist after all.”
Sammy Hagar and Brazil
To this day, Sammy Hagar has never come to Brazil to perform. During the Van Halen period, the band never came to South America: legend has it that the 1983 experience, still with David Lee Roth on a vocal level it would have been anything but positive due to the alleged unpreparedness of the local events market. His other projects also didn’t make it here.
The idea was that, in March 2020, the American would debut on national stages with four performances parallel to the project The Circle. However, shows scheduled in Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Sao Paulo and Ribeirão Preto were canceled due to the covid-19 pandemic.
Already with the show “The Best of All Worlds”the artist also said in an interview from 2024 to Eddie Trunk (go Igor Miranda’s website) who would like to visit other continents. Europe, Oceania and South America were mentioned. Apparently, that won’t happen.
“I’m telling you, let’s move on. We have to take it to South America, we have to take it to Europe, we have to take it to Australia.”
The best of all worlds in 2025
The fact is that the “The Best of All Worlds” has turned into a season of shows in Las Vegas, an increasingly common movement in the high-end music industry, to the point that giant names like Eagles, Mariah Carey, Scorpions, U2, Brown 5 AND Rod Stewart have recently joined the format. About the initiative, Sammy Hagar stated:
“I’m really looking forward to this residency and being able to stay in one place so we can fine-tune the sound and production completely. This also allows the band to experiment with the set list every night, which is why it will be exclusive. in Las Vegas – instead of traveling all day on tour, having no time to rehearse and make changes, I plan to delve deeper into the catalogue. Van Halen and in my solo career, Montrose AND Chicken foot Also. Fans will have many surprises.”
Hagar currently performs alongside her former Van Halen bandmate, Michele Antonio (bass, backing vocals), as well as Joe Satriani (guitar), Kenny Aronoff (battery) e Rai Thistlethwayte (keyboards). Aronoff fills the vacancy left by Jason Bonham, who attended most of 2024’s performances and has worked with the singer for a decade.
