If the relationship between Eloy Casagrande and his former colleagues Grave hasn’t gotten that good since he left to enter the Slipknotfortunately the same cannot be said about his replacement. Greyson Nekrutman, American brought in to fill his spot on the farewell tour Celebrating Life Through Deathreceived praise from his instrument colleague.

In an interview with Modern Drummer (via Igor Miranda website), Casagrande praised not only Nekrutman’s talent, but also the fact that they both joined Sepultura at a very young age. The American, former member of Suicidal Tendenciesjoined the group formed in Brazil at the age of 21 — the same situation as his predecessor, who joined his now former partners at the end of 2011.

“When I see him playing, I remember myself in that same position. When I joined Sepultura, I was his age. This is quite interesting. He’s a very good drummer. I used to watch the videos he posted on social media, when he played more jazz and did drum solos. He is a brilliant musician and I wish him and the rest of the band all the best. I have a lot of respect for him.”

Previous contact

Also during the interview, Eloy Casagrande revealed that he had received Greyson Nekrutman in his studio before the start of the Sepultura tour. The American used the structure to rehearse — and had a little help from the former occupant of the post.

“Greyson came to my studio in São Paulo when he joined the band to do some rehearsals and we had a really good conversation. He only had two or three weeks to learn all the songs, so I gave him some advice, like, ‘we used to play this song faster’ or ‘be careful with this one because we used to play it slower.’ But I wasn’t teaching him how to play the songs, because he can play anything he wants. He’s an incredible drummer.”
