Bassist Billy Gould says he receives different information from his colleagues and guarantees that, if it were up to him, he would be playing in South America now
Since the cancellation of shows between 2021 and 2022, due to the pandemic and the vocalist’s mental health Mike Pattonthere was no further news of the Faith No More. The American band hasn’t performed live since 2016 — a year earlier, they were an attraction at the Brazilian festival Rock in Rio.
Where is the group currently at? In the end, not even its members know. The bassist Billy Gould explained — or tried to explain — the situation to Chilean radio Future (via Blabbermouth).
He said:
“I don’t know [como está a banda no momento]. Honestly, I don’t know. And you don’t have to believe me, but there’s nothing… Right now we’re in a very strange situation, a very strange situation. I can’t really tell what’s going on. I don’t know myself.”
Gould also revealed that he gets different predictions from the other members. There appears to be no agreement on what will be worked on in the future, or even if anything will be done.
“I get different information from people, and I’m in the band, so…”
If it were up to the bassist, Faith No More would be in full swing. That’s what he assured, after the interviewer joked that Gould “calls the shots” in the group.
“Uh, not really. If I told you to, we would probably be playing in Chile next week. [Risos]”

“Semi-permanent hiatus”
In a 2024 text published in Substack (via Igor Miranda website), the keyboardist Roddy Bottum reflected on all his projects, not just the Faith No More. However, when talking about the most famous band he was ever part of, he defined the situation at that time as a “semi-permanent hiatus”.
“I built a life making music. First with Faith No More and then with Imperial Teen […]. Faith No More is kind of on semi-permanent hiatus and Imperial Teen is slowly but surely making a record.”
Faith No More in recent years
It wasn’t just the pandemic that caused the cancellation of shows at Faith No More scheduled for 2021 (in North America) and 2022 (Oceania and Europe). The vocalist Mike Patton explained to Rolling Stone USA who had been diagnosed with agoraphobia (fear or anxiety of being in places that are difficult to exit, usually large crowds).
“I just freaked out right before our first rehearsal. I just said, ‘I can’t do this.’ They were rehearsing, so if they were there, they would be really upset with me. And they stayed. And they probably still are. But you have to be true to yourself and know what your limits are.”
Founded in 1979, Faith No More was on hiatus between 1998 and 2009. Their most recent album, Sol Invictuscame out in 2015.
