Banda performs very few shows since 2017, but Shavo Odadjian reveals that something has changed in the internal operation in recent times
THE system of a Down In 2025 he will take a tour in South America. Take a look at the full program at the end of this page.
Months later, in August and September, the American Armenian quartet will still perform six shows in North America. New Jersey, Chicago and Toronto receive the group, always with a special guest: Korn, avenged sevenfold AND Defonrespectively.
It is not known if Soad will confirm more presentations. Even so, it is already possible to nail: it is your most busy year in terms of shows since 2017. This is because recent times have been of a few collective commitments from Serj Tankian (voice), Daron Malakian (guitar), Shavo Odadjian (bass) and John Dolmayan (drums).
The proposals abound, but only now have they agreed to offer a more coherent live program. And what did he lead to this? In an interview with the issuer Eddie Trunk (Via Igor Miranda website), Odadjian revealed that he and his colleagues are now “in the same melody” – something that had not happened almost a decade ago.
“Lately we haven’t touched ourselves much. From 2017, we did one or two shows a year. So the relationships were not as good as they are now. Basically, everyone was not in the same melody. But we are talking and now everything is fantastic.
Shavo guarantees, on the other hand, that this initiative was not exactly planned. This is not a complete recovery of the downhill system of activity, which no longer promises more presentations different from those that are scheduled.
“There is no strategy behind, not a plan for tours for the rest of the world, at least for now. I’m not saying it won’t happen, but I’m not saying it will happen. We told each other: ‘We see while things They go, let’s take these shows and see how we feel later.
System of a down
Separately, the system of down musicians works hard. Serj Tankian has published solo songs and even an autobiography, Down with the system. Daron Malakian is getting lighter, but presents himself sporadically with the Broadway scars. Shavo Odadjian even created a new band, the Seven hours later Violetwho performed in Brazil in October. John Dolmayan occasionally collaborates with Serj and develops initiatives outside the music, especially in the comic segment.
The problem is when they unite – or rather they do not unite. The system of activities closed in 2006 was collected in 2010, but since then it has not been a tour. In his most active year since the meeting, 2011, he only performed 27 shows.
See under the number of sod presentations from the recovery:
- 2011: 27
- 2012: 17
- 2013: 15
- 2014: 1
- 2015: 19
- 2016: No shows
- 2017: 21
- 2018: 6
- 2019: 2
- 2020: No show (pandemic)
- 2021: 3
- 2022: 4
- 2023: 1
- 2024: 2
- 2025: 14 (announced so far)
In a creative way, the group is also slow, almost still. From the break, he published only two songs: “Protect the earth” AND “Genocida Umanoidz”Both in 2020, in a charity initiative to support the Nagorno-Karabakh region, affected by the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Another singer?
In his aforementioned autobiography, Serj Tankian said that in the mid -2017, he recommended that the Down system followed with another singer. He, who no longer wanted to take tours, did not want to be an obstacle to the band – who refused to bring another in his place.
In an interview with Bullseye with Jesse ThornTankian explained the reasoning when his position was made available:
“I think the system of a down should always be four of us. But it doesn’t matter what I felt, because I was the only one in their own way. I wanted to give them an option. That’s why I did it.”
The singer stressed that his colleagues preferred not to adopt this solution. So the group runs based on the desire to be Serj.
“At the time, they said:” No, friend, ok, if they present an opportunity, we will warn you, but we don’t reward. “
However, it was not always the case. Tankian said that the previous situation was of internal pressure. The singer explains:
“Before then, they would say: ‘come on, we have to do this tour, come on.
It is interesting to note that, according to Serj Tankian’s opinion, the current deficiency of shows has even increased the value of the band. In an interview with Nights Loudwire (Via Igor Miranda website), he commented:
“Look, there are bands that go on tour all year round, they will release an album every year or two and their impact on music, many of them, was not as strong as the system of a down. You don’t have to do a million Things to have an impact on people’s lives or music itself.
