Mexican sisters come to the country for the first time to play alongside Offspring, Sublime, Rise Against, The Damned and Amyl & The Sniffers
A name amid the five announced to open the tour of the Offspring For Brazil left some fans surprised. Next to several bands somehow linked to punk, it is The Warninghard rock sound trio formed by the Mexican sisters Daniela (voice and guitar), Pauline (battery) and Alejandra Villarreal Vélez (low).
In an interview with Rolling Stone Brazilthey themselves admit the initial strangeness when they knew they would play with Sublime, Rise Against, The Damned and Amyl & The Sniffersbesides the “party owners”. But who calls? The excitement for the first time in the largest country in South America suppressed any possible fear.
Paulina, the most articulated speech member – and cited as the main composer – reflected:
“When we entered the tour, I looked at the other bands and thought, ‘Oh, we are kind of strangers here.’ But the opportunity came up when we had a show with offspring in the United States and we have a lot of gratitude. At the end of the day, we will all be enjoying a different subgenre. ”

It would be simplistic to define the sound of this young group as just hard rock. The sound is heavy, but of a modern approach, unlike most subgenre practitioners. You can’t deny the strong influence of Museespecially in the construction of riffs and use of effects. Still, it’s different enough to dispense more accurate comparisons.
It surprises the level of creative maturity of the trio – which has been active since 2013 and has released four albums and two EPS – especially when the ages are observed. Daniela, the oldest, is 25 years old. Paulina, the “do middle”, added 23 in the last month. Alejandra, youngest, is 21. The sisters started playing together when they were between 9 and 13 and soon viralized on YouTube with a cover of “Enter Sandman”from Metallicpublished in 2014.
From there, they entered an upward trajectory to the point of their growth – literally – to be noticed with each launch. Escape The MindEP authorial debut, came out in 2015. Two years later, came the first album, XXI Century Blood. Complete the discography Queen of the Murder Scene (2018), EP Mayday (2021), Error (2022) and KEEP ME FED (2024), and the last three reached public through the Lava/Republic Recordsgiant subsidiaries Universal Music Group.
Having realized so many dreams of such young age, it was still missing to perform in Brazil. The Warning had already gone through Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru, but nothing to come here. The absence will be compensated now, with shows in São Paulo (Allianz Parque, 03/08), Curitiba (Quarry Paulo Leminski, 09/03) and Porto Alegre (Pepsi on Stage, 11/03). The first two dates will be fulfilled with all the bands mentioned at the beginning of this text; Already the third and last, only with offspring, along with whom they had performed in the United States – from there the connection that led to this tour. Even from afar, the trio is keeping an eye on our country. Daniela says she and the sisters dream of touching Rock in Rio Someday. Music fans beyond rock, the young women appreciate bossa nova and Caetano Veloso. And they already train a few words in Portuguese, beyond those we have in common with Spanish: from “thank you” to “butterfly”.

KEEP ME FED AND THE RATEMENT
By the time the interview took place, the Villarreal Vélez sisters did not know how long they would have a show in Brazil. However, they guaranteed that much of the repertoire will be occupied by songs of KEEP ME FEDthe most recent album.
Themselves recognize that this work represented a great evolution. The numbers do not lie: it was with him that, for the first time, the group entered the US record charts (59th in the general ranking), United Kingdom (1st in Chart dedicated to rock and metal), Switzerland (14th), Sweden (15th) and Germany (19th). One of your songs, “S! CK”led them to the eighth position of the list of mainstream singles from the US.
While Daniela celebrates that “People are always singing the newest songs”Paulina points out that KEEP ME FED It is a very important part of the growth experienced by her and her sisters, especially over 2024. She says:
“The great differential of this album is our experience, including as people. We started composing when we were around 12 years old. Your life and the way you see it change a lot, even in relation to our previous album, Errorour third. What we live in after this album – the tours, the dreams we realize and the ups and the downs – changed us as people. KEEP ME FED It was the first time we were really able to stop and process everything we went through. ”

One of the reflexes of this growth – even in popularity – was last month. The band performed a series of shows in major houses in Mexico City; Three of them at the National Auditory, one of the largest and most traditional places in the country for live performances, with sold out tickets. The material has been recorded professionally and should be released on a date and format not yet defined. The drummer reflects:
“We just did the biggest shows of our lives in Mexico as the main attraction. Watching people singing the songs that way and living the album with us the way we did it was so beautiful. We worked on these shows in Mexico for a whole year. It was a long process with such a big team, something unique in life. The places we play, like the National Auditory, are such legendary places. We would never expect three exhausted shows. ”
And should not take too long for KEEP ME FED gain a successor. Contractually – they emphasize – the group must at least start composing their next album this year. The idea is to launch it in 2026.

Ten years of career and the perspective of Latinas in the world
It is strange to say, but The Warning’s first work completes 10 years of release in 2025. This is also mentioned EP Escape The Mindwhich presents five copyright songs: “Take Me Down”, “Fade Away”, “Eternal Love”, “Free Falling” and the title track. The sisters were surprised when this information was brought to the conversation – and laughed at the joke of making a 10th birthday commemorative tour.
The material was composed in the exact room where the three gave this interview by video conferencing Rolling Stone Brazil. Paulina emphasizes that in those days there was no plan or strategy. “We just made music and realized that we could be artists, that we could create together and give something to the world – which is such a revealing thing to a 12 -year -old child.”punctuates.
It is right to say that they had no idea what they would find in front, especially with regard to challenges. One of them, of course, has to do with breaking barriers and prejudices suffered by Latin Americans in other parts of the world. The drummer reflects:
“I think we, as Latin Americans, live it every day. The second where you leave Latin America – and I say Latin America as a whole – and go to the United States, Canada and Europe, people don’t expect a different song that they stereotypically know. ”

Still, no hindrance is viewed with a pessimistic look: the trio understands that many people from other countries simply do not have access to the rich culture of Latin America. Paulina says:
“I find it very beautiful that we can open this curiosity in your minds to think: ‘I never thought there would be rock in Mexico, but look, there is this band here, let me see what else has.’ When we have the opportunity to cross borders, instead of looking at it as ‘oh my God, how do people don’t know about this huge thing that I always knew my whole life?’, I think we should face it as an honorable opportunity to represent our cultures and share a little of what we have. ”
Other than that, there is also the feeling that they are never alone. Highlighting what defines as a “Latin American solidarity”, the drummer concludes:
“Whenever we are at a festival where we think we are the only Latin Americans there, we see someone else with the flag of Mexico or another Latin American country. It is as if we saw each other, it is not said. It is a ‘brotherhood’ [nota: esta última palavra foi dita em português e não em inglês]. ”
