THE State University of Campinas (Unicamp) granted the title of Doctor Honoris Causes group Rational MC Last Thursday, 6.

The honor recognized Brown, Ice Blue, Rock and Kl Jay Edge, members of the group, as “public intellectuals who dialogue with Brazilian social thought”.

“I was a young man. I studied very little. I didn’t have time to study. It was a matter of killing hunger,” Brown said hand, immediately after receiving the diploma. “And when I ventured to study, I felt excluded at school. I did not adapt. I didn’t learn, I had no friends. So today, I receive this title of Doctor, what I can do is thank the back of my heart, in the name of my mother [Dona Ana] And from my friends, Edi-Rock, Kl Jay and Ice Bleu, “Brown said.

The rational group was formed in 1988 in a context of vulnerability and violence. They consolidated as important voices in the fight against racism, social inequality and structural violence in Brazil. The band’s songs portray the daily life of the Brazilian suburbs.

“I want to swear loyalty towards you. In fact, I want to renew the votes of loyalty,” said Brown, referring to the cause that moves the group, which is the fight against inequality, discrimination, prejudice. “The cause is bigger than us. After us, others will come. We were only the spark at the time of the cave. Young people are the future. They are making the revolution. An online revolution,” continued the artist.

The honor granted by the University aims to strengthen the importance of the group as social transformation agents. The nomination for the title came from the teachers of the Institute of Philosophy and Human Sciences (IFCH).

Andreia Galvão, director of IFCH, said that the delivery of the title is historical because the group represents a knowledge that arises from the outskirts of Brazil. “An awareness that in an exclusive and unequal society like ours, almost does not come to university.”
