“These were very hard and violent times. The Vietnam War. Violence on screens. And the war in Vietnam was unconventional. It wasn’t like World War II, or like the Gulf War. It was a dishonest war, people didn’t agree with it and didn’t want to fight for it. The music became a little apocalyptic.”

Exile On Main Street

The vocalist calls the period of production of the record as one of the best moments of his career. A lot of good things happened for the Stones frontman at that point, especially creatively. The disc has 18 tracks recorded with blues, jazz, country and funk influences:

“It was made in different parts. There’s this part that was recorded at Olympic (Studios), maybe a third. Another part was recorded at my home in the English countryside. And half of it was recorded in Keith’s basement in the south of France. Everything was mixed in Los Angeles.”
