Elis Regina: The Artists The Singer designed for MPB
It is not exaggerated to say that much of what is meant by MPB was formatted by the singer’s albums, in particular Elis1966. During his career, he also launched and/or projected names such as Milton Nasceimento, João Bosco & Aldir Blanc, Gilberto Gil, Tim Maia, Suoli Costa, Educ Lobo, Ivan Lins, Belchior, Renato Teixeira AND Guilherme Arantes.
His life was interrupted prematurely in 1982. But it is not exactly to say that we have been without it for over four decades. After all, during this period it was more than present: the singing matrix that he defined in his discography continues to influence the Brazilian (and foreign singers, such as Björk); His recordings have continued in the years after his death, packing SOAP Opera soundtracks, series and films; Your memory never tires of being famous Books, movies, pieces, shows AND Thousands of thousands of taxes.
Still without an appointment, the album that relaunches Elis1973, in the Remixed version, is a symbol of this legacy. The album contains classics of your career, such as It is with what I go (Pedro Caetano), Dry leaves (Nelson Cavaquinho), Ladeira da laza AND East (both from Gilberto Gil).
The modernity of the sound reached there – with a band whose nucleus was the Dream teams César Camargo Mariano (floor and keyboards), Paulinho Braga (drums), Chico Batera (percussion) e Luizão Maia (Electric bass) – served as a reference for a certain way to make samba that appears, for example, in the work of artists such as Djavan In your early years.
“It is a time when a sound is designed for her, by elements such as the approach, discreet but fundamental, by César Camargo Mariano on the synthesizers of the time.”currency João Marcello Bôscoli. “If Brazil had a thought, in musical terms, as the United States had always had, this sound would have achieved a name, it would have been intended almost like a subgenre. The album documents this time of Page Turn, a new stage in music and also in life. Because it was entering a new wedding (with César Camargo Mariano), moving to Sao Paulo … finally a series of human nuances.”
João Marcello Bôscoli He explains that his work and team in remixing of Elis AND “Respect 110% the original plans of those who created the album.” That is, without moving the conception of the sound of the album, making it clearer and lighter, from the resources that current technology allows.
“The first thing we do is take everything that does not belong to the recording: chiados, click …”explains João Marcello. “Let’s go to the limit of what can extract without affecting the tone of the instrument. Another thing: at the time, the most serious frequencies that could throw the needle out of the vinyl groove have been cut. In this new version, everything that has been listened to inside the album is on the album. Chimbal is on the left side, it does not go to the right side.
And complements: “But the final result brings a very large difference. These microdals are clear, the original plots appear more.”
However, respecting the original plans, there is a commandment that João Marcello The letter follows every time you work on Elis’ recordings: “There is no vocal correction of the development in Elis. It is prohibited. In the first place, because I do not want to create something that Elis has not approved. And secondly, I do not want to pass the sovereign in the voice to reach something that does not exist in nature. Also because Elis has used the development for the interpretation. Sometimes he pulls up or down, according to the message he wants to pass. Reaching him.
