Spoilers ahead of the premiere of the third season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series“Happy fields”.
With summer halfway through, the hiatus has just begun for the Wildcats on Disney +. High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Season 3 just premiered, after the group attended a summer camp that includes a celebrity guest. Original HSM Star Corbin Bleu appears this season as himself, albeit in a slightly different version where he’s a bit selfish. But the actor was really excited to play a “donkey”.
In an interview with Gossipify’s Sarah El-Mahmoud, Corbin Bleu talked about playing an “ass” in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (opens in a new tab). In the first episode, he was unwilling to help with the camp musical. Instead, he highlighted the character of Jason Earles’ camp director who, despite him directing the documentary on the show to air. Disney + (opens in a new tab) (very meta), he won’t spend his time directing the actual musical. And Blu was glad to laugh at himself:
It’s so funny. It’s really fun to be able to play yourself, to be able to fool yourself, just to fool yourself, and I also like the fact that I can play a bit of an idiot, a version of myself. I think because there are times, even in real life, where you think, “I wonder what would happen if I just said no, or if I said this person, or if I liked him, do you have those weird instincts?” And you say, no, I, I can’t do this in real life. And that having those experiences is, it’s very, very fun.
You’d think with someone appearing on a show as himself that would be himself, so it was definitely a surprise, albeit fun, to see Corbin Bleu in a role that fans don’t care about. It should be interesting to see how he turns out for the rest of the season and how Blue surprises fans.
Blue also revealed that like many shows and movies, it’s not all in the script. While he didn’t go into too much detail about it, he admitted there were some offhand jokes, which even showed how silly he could be when it was very likely he was cute in real life:
we had times [where we could improvise]. I have to say it’s a big part of not only the cast but our directors as well and Tim, you know, were very open to moments of improvisation or adding a line or adding a little usually in one, in a second or third take, you can throw something there, and it turns out it’s actually a really fun moment that remains.
Corbin Bleu is the third high school musical star to appear in the series, after Kaycee Stroh and Lucas Grabeel, who appeared in the first season. While Grabeel was playing the lead role of himself, Stroh was actually playing a member of the school board. Considering how important the original film was to people, it was a pleasant surprise, regardless.
Speaking of appearances, fans were hoping for two more HSM the stars will return to East High. Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron recently visited the real East High in Salt Lake City, Utah, in separate moments, and Efron also expressed interest in returning to the HSM franchising. So maybe this could be the start of something new?
Meanwhile, with the third season officially underway on Disney +, HSMTMTS It has already been renewed for a fourth season. The music and nostalgia will continue, but the return of Olivia Rodrigo is in the air. Her character, Nini, was downgraded to a guest role this season because Rodrigo was too busy dominating the pop music world. It is therefore not known whether this will remain for season 4.
