“PRETI (Let Her Go Home)” talks about the suffering of women arrested before the trial and reflects the artist’s work on a social project
Fiona Apple released the clip of his new song, “PRETI (LET HER GO HOME)”which presents women impacted by the arrest before the trial. In a statement, the singer and songwriter said the track was inspired by women who survived the situation.
Apple He said that during her time as an observer in courts for more than two years, she “noted thousands of bail,” and noted “time after” as “people were taken and placed in prison, for no reason but could not pay to be released.” The artist added that it was “particularly difficult to hear mothers and caregivers being taken from people who depend on them.”
She shared that in the last five years she has been volunteering in the Free Black Mamas DMV Bailout project and witnessed “the stories of women who have fought and gained their freedom with the tireless and loving support of leadership.” According to a press release, the video features photos and filming shared by incarcerated women despite the presumption of innocence, simply because they could not pay the bail.
Produced by Zealous and Special Operations Studios, the video “highlights the cold realities of the song, while showing thousands of images of hope and daily freedom – warm photos and videos provided by women who lived pre -judgment, capturing family moments, personal achievements and community ties.”
