MK2 is now available on digital platforms and brings the artist in a new stage of career, personal, introspective and brave
Almost two years after the last solo album, the rapper and songwriter Ebony is back and inaugurates a more personal, introspective and courageous phase with the album Km2. The work refers to the artist’s hometown, Queimados, in Baixada Fluminense, that she and her friends used to call “km-dois”.
In the project, Ebony Deep divers on topics such as identity, peripheral experiences, pain and superpowers built from the complexity of being a young black woman in a world that insists on frame and categorize everything and everyone in boxes.
This album comes from my desire to stop hiding. It is not a happy record. But it’s not sad either. It’s a dark chocolate, ”he explains.

According to her, the desire came after realizing that it was constantly reduced to the hyper sexual persona that elaborated during the creative process of Therapyyour previous work. In Km2what she presents is a search to show – not just to speak – the truth.
With participation of Black Alien and Laryxthe album travels a sound and emotional narrative about youth on the periphery, the cacophony of the streets, the external projections about black bodies and the questions that the youth of Baixada is done daily. “This album is about my life, the life I have and the life I seek,” summarizes the artist.
The creation process was largely lonely. All letters are signed by Ebonywho is also a composer of other artists. “In this project, in particular, it had to be me. I was writing and at the same time discovering me. It almost made me exclude songs that I thought was too heavy. But I understood it was about me, about my story.”
Track “Extraordinary”made in partnership with singer Kesia, is one of the highlights of Km2 And it represents this connection well with its origins. Inspired by experiences in the Pentecostal Church, where Ebony It began to sing, music brings influences of that time and reinforces the size of the project. The album also brings real records of sounds captured in Queimados over the years by the producer Larawhich creates a living, almost documentary sound environment.
Musically, Km2 It is a kaleidoscope: mix rap with drum and bass, trance, gospel, funk, indie and MPB. The proposal is to reflect, in the beats, the confusion of daily life and the glamor of the luxury spaces that were not always accessible.
“The sound of this album is unlike anything I’ve ever heard. And that shows me how special it is. I have no pretense to please anyone. This album is for me.”
Along the tracks, Ebony It turns into poetry themes such as trauma, sexual abuse, femininity, autonomy, family and dreams. With a sharp and powerful writing, it proposes to reiterate questions that, however uncomfortable or repeated, need to continue to be made so that new answers can arise.
I hope those who hear ‘km2’ feel confused and welcomed. Confusion is also an important feeling. We always seek to be happy or sad, but what about everything that exists in the middle? “Asks the artist.
Km2 It is, above all, a reunion. A dedication to Milena of burning, the girl who would become Ebonyand today recognizes itself as extraordinary. Listen Km2 Following:
