Morrissey cancels two shows in Mexico on the eve of visit to Brazil

Performances on October 31st and November 4th will no longer take place due to the artist’s ‘extreme exhaustion’, who is expected in São Paulo on November 12th

*By Althea Legaspi and Igor Miranda | Morrissey canceled two shows in Mexico. One of them would take place last Friday, October 31, at the Palacio de los Deportes, in Mexico City. The other would be at Auditorio Telmex, in Zapopan, this Tuesday, the 4th.

Hours before the first performance, the responsible producer released a note on Instagram announcing the cancellation, claiming that the reason was “extreme exhaustion on the part of the artist”. The statement also stated that anyone who purchased tickets online will automatically receive a refund to the credit card used. Anyone who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster or at the box office will be able to request a refund from Friday, 7th, at the point of sale.

On Saturday, 1st, after the announcement of the cancellation by the promoter, the official website of the former member of The Smiths published a video of his song “I Know It’s Gonna Happen Someday” with several Mexican flag emojis in the caption, in addition to the title of the 1992 song.

The news leaves Brazil fans worried. The dates in Mexico kicked off a tour of Latin America — and our country is one of the next destinations. The artist has scheduled a performance at Espaço Unimed, in São Paulo, for November 12th. Before that, it is expected in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on November 8th. Chile (Santiago – 16/11), Peru (Lima – 20/11) and Colombia (Bogotá – 22/11) complete the itinerary.

So far, post-Mexico commitments remain scheduled. However, Morrissey has a long history of cancellations involving, among other countries, Brazil itself. In 2013, he suspended a tour of the country. Ten years later, in 2023, he postponed a national tour until the beginning of 2024, only to end up canceling it altogether.

Morrissey fans probably know that concert cancellations can happen. During the summer, he canceled his concert in Stockholm, Sweden, on the same day, citing difficulties in obtaining support from the music industry to complete his European tour. In September, he canceled shows in Boston and Connecticut due to a “credible threat” to his life.

After visiting Latin America, Morrissey is expected on December 12, 2025 in Greece, to end the year. He returns to the United States in January with a series of shows that begins January 3 in Rancho Mirage, California, and ends January 22 in Hollywood, Florida.
