Brazilian guitarist who lives in Portugal would have raped women with whom he was related about three months ago; Read note issued by the musician
The Brazilian guitarist Yamandu Costa He was accused of physical, sexual and psychological aggression to a woman she had been related to about three months in Lisbon, Portugal, where she has lived since 2019. She had her identity preserved. The musician denies the accusations.
The case became public through a video recorded by the Portuguese activist Inês Marine. She is the founder of the movement Do not sharewhich acts against the dissemination of intimate images made without the consent of women.
According to the alleged victim, Yamandu would have raped her three times after driving with medicines. She also accuses the guitarist to have assaulted her at least on two occasions, with a public slap in a restaurant, and on her back in front of a minor.
In her video, Inês reports that the alleged aggressions of Yamandu against women would have started in early May:
“On May 1st this year, in Lisbon, Yamandu assaulted this woman in front of her own child, who is a child. The next day, she again assaulted this woman with a slap in public in the Tagus Bar, where several people witnessed this aggression. This surviving also reports that she was sexually abused by Yamandu, while she was unconscious, after giving her pills to sleep.”
In the publication, there are also images of what would be conversations between Yamandu and the alleged victim. In them, the musician apologizes, says he does not remember aggression and then claims that it was “unintentionally.”

According to the calculation of Folha de S. Pauloa document issued by the Institute of Forensic Medicine and Forensic Sciences of Catalonia, in Barcelona, where the case was registered, attests that “the woman had bruises compatible with the denounced aggression.”
Yamandu Costa’s statement
In an official note, Yamandu Costa “vehemently” denies the accusations. The text is signed by him, by the law firm Almeida Castro, Castro and Turbay Lawyers and by the Portuguese lawyer Henrique Salinas (via The globe):
“I received with perplexity and sadness the information about serious allegations. Verely deny their content, as well as repudiate any kind of violence. I take the opportunity to sympathize with women victims of abuse and inform that I will collaborate with the competent authorities to clarify the facts. In order to safeguard the truth, in view of the seriousness of the subject, from this moment, my lawyers will take the measures, necessary. ”
Gaucho of Passo Fundo, Yamandu Costa is 45 years old and is cited as one of the greatest guitarists in Brazil and the world. Between 2007 and 2023, he was married to the Venezuelan and also a guitarist Elodie Bounyalong with who had two children.
