Drummer joined the band in 2023, in the vacancy left by the late Taylor Hawkins, and participated in the tour that promoted the album But Here We Are
The return of Foo Fighters on stage, scheduled for October 4, will not have Josh Freese. The drummer revealed that he was fired from the band.
The information was shared by his own social networks. In the text, Freese states that no explanation was given to decision making.
Initially, he states:
“Foo Fighters called me Monday night to warn me that they decided to ‘go for a different direction with their drummer’. No reason has been given. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the last two years with them, both inside and off stage, and the support in whatever they feel is better for the band.”
Josh, who entered 2023 as a tours drummer, lamented the situation because, according to his own, had never been fired. He also pointed out that he continues with his performance as a freelance musician.
“In my 40 years of professional drummer, they never took me out of a band, so I’m not annoyed, but a little shocked and disappointed. But as many of you know, I always worked as a freelancer and moved between bands, so everything is fine. Stay tuned to my list ‘top 10 reasons Josh was taken from Foo Fighters’.”

Freese was chosen to replace Taylor Hawkinsdeceased in May 2022 in South America. His resume includes works with The Vandals, Owe, The Perfect Circle, Guns n ‘Roses, NINE INH NAILS and SUICIDAL TENDENCIESamong others (via Igor Miranda website). Despite the bond, he did not participate in the album But here we are (2023), only from the subsequent tour.
Foo Fighters back on stage
THE Formula 1 announced on Wednesday, 14, that the Foo Fighters It will be one of the musical attractions of Singapore Grand Prix this year. The race is scheduled for the first weekend of October.
More specifically, the sports dispute in the Asian country will be on Sunday, 5. Foo Fighters performs the day before, Saturday, 4, on the second day of programming.
The band also made a post on their official profile announcing the date and, thus, will join other artists confirmed in the Singapore GP, as Elton John – Back on stage after completing a farewell tour -, SMASHING PUMPKINS, Babymetal and Alan Walker.
Foo Fighters is surprised because it was already away from the stage for some time. The American band has not performed live in public since August 2024, in Seattle, when it closed the tour Everything or Nothing at All.
Shortly thereafter, in September, Dave Grohl and company played in Anaheim, California, but at a private businessman event Henry Samueliowner of Anaheim Ducks.
The Singapore GP show is Foo Fighters’ only commitment to 2025 so far and also the first after Grohl’s marital crisis, which revealed last year had a daughter out of marriage.
