Mike Shinoda, guitarist of the band of Nu Metal, recalls 2003 excursion that made the Thrash giants and how they were received by the public
Mike Shinoda has great memories of the tour Linkin Park with the Metallic In 2003. No wonder the vocalist and multi-instrumentalist puts her among the top three the band has ever done.
One particular aspect, however, marked the musician in a special way. According to him, there was a certain fear of how Metallica fans, Thrash Metal’s main name, would receive Linkin Park, a group of naked metal.
To the artist’s surprise, the reception was quite respectful. Shinoda remembered this episode in an interview with the podcast Drink Champs (via Blabberouth):
“It was in the era in the naked metal. All these rap-rock bands were on display. Besides Metallica, (on the tour) Limp Bizkit, Defton, Mudvayne. And as we were in the midst of them, it seemed that we would be the misfortune, but we were not. We knew we would do a really big show. We were rocking. We feel great, and the fans loved our music. In each of the shows, we got in and rock. It was a lot of fun. And this is uncommon for a fan of Metallica. “
Shinoda emphasizes the size of the band’s feat when adding:
“I don’t know if you know, but the (Metallica) fans can be very rude with their opening artists. There was a show – this is very common on their shows – that their fans appeared, turned their backs on the artist, raised their finger and threw beer on stage while they played. And we didn’t do it with us.”

Linkin Park and the “prank” with Metallica
Mike Shinoda told the radio Siriusxm that Linkin Park felt so comfortable that at the end of the tour decided to make a “prank” with Metallica. He recalled:
“We must be one of the only bands that made a prank with them on stage. I think they were in the middle of ‘MASTER OF PUPPETS’ And we entered the stage with picnic baskets and sandwiches. So we made a picnic on stage while they were playing the song. “
