A story with a “random roll”, but that, about 10 years ago, gave the behind the scenes of Brazilian music as it approaches Kanye West and Psiro. The situation also involved characters as Caetano Veloso, EMICIDA and even Fausto Silva, Faustão.
This is, in short, the script of when Márcio VictorBahian percussionist and singer of the Psirico group allegedly refused to record music with American rapper Kanye West.
In March 2014, Kanye was in Brazil and participated in an informal event at Casa de Caetano Veloso. Among other artists, there was Márcio Victor, at the time burst with the hit “LEPO LEPO”the most popular success of that year’s carnival.
Former member of the band of Caetano and renowned percussionist in Bahia, Márcio Victor would have left Kanye West impressed with his musicality. Brazilian rapper Emicida was also at the event and told in an interview with the program Rap in gazeta (via The globe):
“He (Kanye West) spanned Psirico. He freaked out on Márcio Victor and wanted Márcio to record with him. Márcio Victor had no date to record with him. It’s on? I saw me, no one told me. He spoke to Márcio Vitor, ‘Oh, let’s go to the studio tomorrow.’
Why Psirico refused feat with Kanye West
Márcio Victor, however, would have refused the invitation due to a Psirico’s agenda commitment. The band was climbing to participate in the program Domingão do Faustãocommanded by Fausto Silva, in TV Globo.
To the website Bahia Newsthree years later, Márcio Victor presented his version:
“Unfortunately I couldn’t because I had the Domingão do Faustão To do, it was already scheduled and then you know how it is, I had already given the word. “
Despite the frustration of the scheduling of agendas, Márcio stated that he was a big fan of Kanye West, considered him a reference in music and hoping to still realize the partnership in the future.
In recent years, however, the American star has been involved in a series of controversies, more notably linked to racism and nazism apology. The most recent was with a song titled “Heil Hitler”in clear exaltation to Adolf Hitler and with anti -Semitic content, which was banned from streaming applications as Spotify, Youtube, Apple Music, Reddit and others.
