New Jersey health officials warn who was at the show in May for symptoms and recommend updating the triple viral vaccine
This time, it’s not an internet rumor. The New Jersey Health Department issued an alert to those who were at the Shakira At Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, on May 15th. According to the authorities, a spectator from another state present in the presentation was infected with measles – which may have exposed part of the public to the highly contagious virus.
The organ recommends that those present be aware of symptoms, which include high fever, cough, runny nose, red and watery eyes, as well as skin blemishes that usually appear between the third and fifth day after the beginning of the signs. These symptoms may appear until June 6th.
The main recommendation is that the public check if you have measles, mumps and rubella vaccination (MMR) up to date. The warning occurs amid false statements by the Secretary of Health Robert F. Kennedy Jr.which recently claimed that the measles vaccine has never been properly tested – which is denied by decades of scientific evidence.
Why is vaccination against measles essential?
1. Measles is highly contagious:
An infected person can transmit the virus to up to 90% of non -vaccinated people with those who have close contact. It spreads through the air, coughing, sneezing or even for being in environments where the infected person was recently.
2. The vaccine is extremely effective:
The triple viral vaccine (MMR – measles, mumps and rubella) offers about 97% effectiveness after the two recommended doses. Vaccinated people have robust and lasting protection.
3. Measles can be severe and even fatal:
Although often underestimated, measles can cause serious complications such as pneumonia, encephalitis (brain inflammation), blindness, deafness and even death – especially in young children and immunocompromised people.
4. Vaccination protects the entire community:
When the majority of the population is vaccinated, the so -called collective immunity effect or “herd immunity” occurs. This helps protect those who can’t get the vaccine (such as very small babies or people with certain medical conditions).
5. Cases are increasing due to the drop in vaccination coverage:
In recent years, COVID-19 antivacin campaigns and pandemic have caused a worrying reduction in global vaccination coverage. This has facilitated the return of previously controlled disease outbreaks, such as measles – even in developed countries.
