The Wall (1979) became one of the most famous albums in Pink Floyd Not only for music, but also for several factors that surrounded him. Some examples include cover art, internal designs, concept, promotional shows, and the following movie.

Speaking specifically of the drawing that illustrates the cover, the large official remembers the unusual way he was born. The illustrator and cartoonist GERALD SCARFE reached the minimalist art of The Wall in the kitchen of the home of the bassist and vocalist Roger Waters.

As told Uncut (via Ultimate Classic Rock), Scarfe had to run against time due to tight deadlines to develop the entire graphic concept of the album.

“I had to create all the characters – the wives, the mother, the teacher, and all these semicarte figures – very quickly because the album was leaving.”

In this process, he says that art with the white brick wall was born spontaneously at an informal meeting at Waters’ house.

“The band was in the south of the France And I flying to find them. I even designed the album cover on Roger’s kitchen table. “

And adds:

“Waters had his own visions, but accepted what I did. It was a strange marriage, actually, but we became very close friends.”

More than 45 years of the launch of The Wallits aesthetics still reverberate. Gerald Scarfe says he is “impressed” with such longevity and reflects proudly:
