Climbing for the fourth and last day of festival, Hurricanes convinced public still tiny, but willing to give her revival blues a chance
By climbing national attractions for the recent editions of the Best of Blues and Rockthe organization has followed a more eclectic path. The presence of names like Dead Fish, CPM 22, Di ferrero, Day Limns and Iran! In achievements in recent years it has even generated questions of more avid blues fan and their subgenres, although in 2023, Nanda Moura Has given great presentation going straight to the root of the style mentioned.
In 2025, however, curatorship got it right to invite to last Sunday, 15, HurricanesBand that fuses the two genres present in the very name of the Paulistano Festival: Blues and Rock. Composed of Rodrigo Cezimbra (voice), Leo Mayer (guitar), Henrique Cezarino (low) and Guilherme Moraes (battery), the group – who performed with the guests Jimmy Pappon (keyboards), Julia Benford and Lucille Berce (both backing vocals) – found a small audience and still well contained when it took the stage of the outer area of the Ibirapuera Auditorium, where they would later play Judith Hill and Deep Purple. Just executed “Penny in My Pocket”opening track, to attract attention and even cell phones in video recording to the top.

The sound and even the look is not original, it should be recognized, but few groups in Brazil set out to do a revival work of the Blues/Classic Rock of the 1960s and 1970s. Hurricanes, founded in Rio Grande do Sul and now based in São Paulo, fills such a gap with quality enough not only to convince a audience, as well as, as well as more enthusiastic reactions as it also attracts more enthusiastic reactions the unfolding of your performance.

He even drew attention that in at least two set songs, the septeto was applauded twice: still in the middle of music and, as conventionally is done at the end. Happened in “Come to the River”of the most pronounced groove, with acclamation after the extended instrumental; and “Flowers”Ballad of strong melodic appreciation, with fair palms – since it was the best of the set – right after the first chorus.
“Waiting”of clear Zeppelian influence; “Weary Hearted Blues”with guitar in the foreground; and “Devil’s Deal”Blues Rock burning restarted after one of the strings of Mayer instrument bursting in the initial seconds, also stood out. Clearly still missing stage traquejo – the competent Rodrigo Cezimbra often did not hear singing and barely communicated among the songs – but already perceives evolution compared to the show opening for the show Black Crowesin March 2023; as a progress is noted between the only two albums released, the namesake of 2023 and Back to the basement (2024).

In an interview with Bia Cardoso to the Rolling Stone Brazildays before the best of best of blues and rock, Leo Mayer acknowledged that Hurricanes deals with a very restricted audience niche. It will be? The good reception at the Paulistano Festival and the aforementioned lack of more Brazilian attractions with this type of sound may be indicative that there are more potential audiences for this band than you think. Just move on. And if you find a sound differential – not yet found – better yet.
