Brazilian icon, singer and composer deceased in 1990 took about two years to publicly assume that he had contracted the HIV virus
In 1985 came the first symptoms such as fever and seizures. In 1987, the painful diagnosis: Cazuza had contracted the HIV virus and had AIDS.
The Brazilian singer and songwriter, however, still took two more years until he feels comfortable publicly assuming the disease.
Only in 1989 Cazuza revealed to the world that he fought AIDS. In this process, a song of his own authorship convinced him to assume that he was a carrier of the virus.
It is the song “Brazil“released on the album Ideology (1988). In one verses, Cazuza sings “Brazil, show your face”and that motivated him to tell the truth about his state of health.

The following year, on a trip to United StatesCazuza decided to open the game. Júlio Ettorenational rock specialist, commented on his channel in the Youtube (via Wiplash).
According to Julius, the journalist ZECA CAMARGOat the corresponding time of Folha de S. Paulowas the first to publish the information:
“Cazuza made the decision to reveal, but this only occurred at the 1989 Carnival, when he went to Boston for exams. (…) In the interview, Zeca asked about the hospitalization. Cazuza said he had a sickness and was fed up and without patience. Cazuza took a glass of wine and told Zeca to write that the ‘damn’ is AIDS.
Cazuza didn’t stop
Even weakened, Cazuza still made a national tour, Time does not stopdirected by Ney Matogrosso. He made public appearances until June 1990 and died a month later, on the morning of July 7, 1990, in Rio de Janeiro.
In a recent interview with Fantasticfrom the TV Globo, Lucinha AraújoCazuza’s mother, said:
“The biggest memory I have from him is courage, courage with everything, especially with the disease. I never saw him complain, I always had hope. He thought that life had given him so much that he could not complain, had to have hope.”
She adds:
“He has died, but he is alive in the hearts of all Brazilians. It’s impressive how dear he is.”
