Black Sabbath drummer will finally perform with the band after being out of the last meeting for alleged limitation to play
The farewell event of the Black Sabbath, Back to the beginninghas a star cast of attractions and guests. Still, one of its greatest attractions is seemingly simple: the fact that Bill Ward be present.
On the other hand, it is important to highlight the “seemingly simple”. Over the past few decades, the 77 -year -old drummer has been affected by a number of health problems. Even when it seemed that I would take the stage again with the band, it ended up getting out of the party.
It was like this in the previous farewell tour in 2016; in the recording and on the excursion of the group’s last album, 13 (2013); and also on other occasions of the past. To understand the chronological line of Bill’s absences, you need to go back a little more in time.
Bill Ward alcoholism
Bill Ward’s first more serious health problems date back to the early 1980s. Ozzy Osbourne Black Sabbath, the drummer did not deal so well with the entry of Ronnie James Dio in the band and, even having participated in Heaven and Hell (1980), says that he practically does not remember having recorded the album.

Alcoholic beverages abuse led Bill to “disappear” during the disk tour. This was the first time Vinny Appice had to replace it.
After being out of the album Mob Rules (1981), Sabbath’s original drummer returned in Born Again (1983), with Ian Gillan on vocal. Soon it left again.
1990s and visible problems
Cut for the 1990s. Bill Ward, who had already performed with Sabbath at the festival Live Aid (1985), returns to the band’s shows opening to Ozzy Osbourne in their first farewell tour, the No More Toursin 1992.
In 1997, when the tour that generated the album live Gather(1998), Bill suffered a heart attack during rehearsals and was absent in virtually the whole excursion. Was replaced by Mike Bordin (Faith no More). He only managed to do the two final shows, which were recorded for the official release.

In the mid -2000s, Bill was involved in the project embryo Heaven & Hellwhich promoted the reunion between Dio and the original members Tony Iommi and Geezer Butlerbut under new nickname. However, the drummer moved away from the work, giving way to Vinny Appice, responsible for the battery on the album The Devil You Know (2009).
Out of the long -awaited meeting
The most awaited – and frustrated – meeting, however, was 2011. The four original members of Black Sabbath announced a new studio album with classic formation, which hasn’t been happening since Never Say Die! (1978).
However, Bill was excluded from the album and the subsequent tour, being replaced, respectively, by Brad Wilk (Rage Against The Machine) and Tommy Clube (Ozzy, The Dead Daisies).

At that time the crossfire of statements began between the drummer and Sharon Osbourne. While Ozzy’s wife and businesswoman claimed that the drummer had no more health conditions to play a good role, he replied that the contract offered was “innable.”
At the time, Ozzy issued a comment on social networks and said:
“Bill, stop this smoke curtain about a ‘ill -contract’ and we are honest. Deep down, you knew you couldn’t record the album and make a 16 -month tour. Unfortunately for you, our instincts were correct, because you were hospitalized several times in 2013. Your last hospitalization went to shoulder surgery, which you now say you would have recently signed. Being canceled. So, how is all this fault?
Mea partial guilt
Subsequently, Bill Ward admitted that he was overweight at the time. He underwent gastrointestinal surgery, but in an interview with King Nishimotofrom Ghost cult (via Blabberouth), rejected the accusations that he could not play:
“I’ve never been in a situation where I couldn’t play drums. It’s very sad that they made statements about me to imply that I wasn’t able to play battery.” At no time, my ability to play battery has been harmed or my health was impaired. I was very angry with these suggestions and what was happening. “
In 2017, Bill was hospitalized again as a result of heart problems. The drummer had to cancel shows of new projects, such as the band Day of errors.
Is Bill Ward okay?
Recently, news about new health complications have ceased compared to Bill Ward. The drummer is confirmed for the show that promises to mark the permanent farewell of Heavy Metal’s parents.
