Music Music that Cazuza kept after composing and never sang – but Ney Matogrosso recorded

Among the poetry created by Cazuzamany became songs that he himself would sing, be it in Red baron or in a solo career. However, one of them remained stored for decades and was never recorded by the so -called rock poet – only by Ney Matogrosso23 years later.

This is the story of “Poem”launched in 1999. The track even became Ney’s most played song at all times, according to the Central Office of Collection and Distribution (ECAD).

The letter of “Poem”as the title points out, it is really a poetry. She was written by Cazuza to her paternal grandmother, MARIA JOSÉin the mid -1970s.

According to Lucinha Araújomother of the carioca singer and composer, the poem was a gift from her son to her grandmother, who kept him until she died at the age of 100.

In an interview with Pedro Bial (via The best songs), Lucinha told the story. Initially, she said:

“My mother-in-law said, ‘Cazuza, I don’t expect me to die to do a poetry for me. It does while I’m alive.’ The years have passed and she told me that he had already done poetry. ‘It’s me, but I won’t show you’.

Then he added:

“When my mother -in -law died, my sisters -in -law asked what I wanted from her. I said I wanted the Cazuza photos she had, and the LPs he autographed for her. When I open the bag, there was a poem together. It was the poem 23 years later.”

Invitation to Frejat and Ney Matogrosso

In possession of the poem, Lucinha Araújo invited in 1998 Robert Frejatformer partner of Cazuza in Red baronto music the lyrics.

Frejat answered Cazuza’s mother’s request and then both called Ney Matogrosso, who had been Cazuza’s boyfriend in the 1980s to sing.

Because it is a very emotional and lyrics that demonstrate deep affection, “Poem” usually viralizes near July 26, which in Brazil corresponds to “Grandparents Day”.

In 2023, for example, a trend made “Poem”pump on social networks. The song had about 1,700 daily posts in Tiktok and 27,000 daily reproductions in Spotify in that period, which represented a 20% growth on the streaming platform.
