Former The Verve commented in a good mood Oasis show video in which someone used their cell phone to find out ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’
Not all hymns are universal, or at least not for everyone. Last weekend, Richard Ashcroftformer singer of The Vervewas responsible for opening the meeting of the meeting of the Oasiswith two shows sold out at the principally Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. But what caught the attention of the public (and the internet) was an unexpected moment: someone in the middle of the audience used the Shazam To identify music “SWEET SYMPHONY BITTER”1997 classic and one of Britpop’s greatest milestones.
The video, published in Tiktokquickly viralized with the caption: “Did they just shazam the National Anthem 😩”, something like “they really shazam in the national anthem?!”. After all, it is one of the most iconic songs of that generation, immortalized not only for its grand arrangement (with sample of Rolling Stones), but also for representing an entire era of British music.

Showing good mood, Ashcroft responded to the situation with class in a post in Instagram On Sunday (6), commenting on the second day of shows:
“Day 2, thanks to everyone who went and gave this beautiful support to my set. If you don’t know the song, Shazame! All the new fans are welcome!” Wrote the singer, showing zero resentment.

Ashcroft also thanked the Liam Gallagher for dedicating to him music “Cast no Shadow”from the album What’s the story?. Written by Noel Gallagherthe track is a direct tribute to Ashcroft and to its role in the British scene of the 1990s.
Even though “SWEET SYMPHONY BITTER” Still sound like a hymn for many fans, the episode served as a curious (and fun) reminder that not every generation is born with Britpop at the tip of the tongue, but there is always time to find out. And how Ashcroft Said: If you don’t know, Shazam and go.
