John Dolmayan guarantees that basic adjustment in the order of the creative process would cause the group to create their first album in two decades
It is no secret that the creative gap of the system of a Down – 20 years without new album, with only two unreleased songs since then – occurs for creative differences. More specifically, among the vocalist SERJ TANKIAN and the guitarist Daron Malakian.
In an interview with the podcast of Sona Oganesyan (via Blabberouth), the drummer John Dolmayan He revealed to have a curious strategy to make a record finally come true. For him, who is the brother -in -law of Tankian, just reverse the order of the creative process.
“I told Daron the secret of how to make an album: ‘Daron, bring his songs last.’ When we were going to record, Daron brought his songs, because he had many. They were very well thought out, the most complete. So, why you don’t say to bring his songs first, so that we look at all his ideas? Shavo [Odadjian, baixista]. Daron brings last. What is the difference? That says, ‘I care more about your songs than on mine, and I will ask you to bring your first.’
It is not a matter of excluding Malakian from the creative process. In Dolmayan’s view, the guitarist will eventually get most of the album’s songs anyway.
“Most Daron’s songs will end up on the album. He’s the best composer I’ve ever seen in my life. And Serj is a prolific lyricist. And believe me or not, many of the songs you like most about System first came from Shavo – the riffs, the movements originated with shavo. of the person, the resentments come into play. ”

Equality would not work on System of a Down
The podcast host even gave a suggestion that seems logical: a System of a Down album with the same number of songs by Daron Malakian and Serj Tankian. According to John Dolmayan, it would not work.
“But what if Serj had created 12 great songs and they were better than the ones Daron composed? So, making a mediocre album that is not our best to appease people?
What if it was the way by John Dolmayan?
Still during the interview, John Dolmayan revealed what the current System of A Down activities would look like if he was in charge. The drummer said:
“We would do the tours we have already planned, and then, in 2027, we would block six months. We would go to one of us, in a studio we have in one of these houses, where we all have our spaces, and we would work on a new System album without rules. It can bring or schedule how long it will take.
While none of this happens, the System of a Down has six megahows in the United States for the period between August and September. There will be three cities with two presentations each. Avenged Sevenfold, Defton and Korn open these dates. In the first half, the group performed five shows in Brazil, amid a tour of South America – the first in a decade.
