Hamnet: Life before Hamlet, which is inspired by the life and work of William Shakespeare, hits Brazilian theaters only in 2026
THE Rio Festival announced that Hamnet: Life before Hamletnew feature of the Oscar winner Chloé Zhao (Nomadland), and based on the award -winning book of Maggie O’Farrellwill end this year’s edition of the festival, which takes place between October 2 and 12.
Hamnet – who was the big winner of the Toronto International Film Festival and critically acclaimed during his premiere at the Telluride Festival, and is one of the great favorites at Oscar 2026 – will be aired on October 11 at 7:30 pm in the historic Cine Odeon – CCLSR, in downtown Rio de Janeiro.

With script Maggie O’Farrell and Chloé ZhaoHamnet: Life before Hamlet accompanies Agnes (Jessie Buckley, Among women), wife of William Shakespeare (MESCAL PAUL, All of us unknown), while facing the pain of the loss of your only child, Hamnet. Exciting and deeply human, the film explores the strength of mourning and the ability to resignify, while revealing the background for the creation of “Hamlet,” the most famous work of the English playwright.
