The Beatles icon, also a giant in his solo career, would turn 85 this Thursday, the 9th; he was killed in December 1980
Eternal member of Beatles and author of songs that became anthems of generations, John Lennon he would have turned 85 years old this Thursday, the 9th. His work remains alive and highlighted in public executions around the world, including in Brazil.
To honor his trajectory, the Central Collection and Distribution Office (Ecad) prepared a special survey of the artist’s most played and re-recorded songs.
According to the data, Lennon has 717 musical works and 4,342 recordings registered in the collective management database. Much of the material from its creation also bears the signature of Paul McCartney in the Beatles — the two shared credits even when, in fact, only one of them had conceived everything alone.
Therefore, the survey contains several songs most associated with McCartney. Among the classics, “Hey Jude” leads the ranking of the most played songs in the last five years, while “Yesterday” occupies the top spot among the most re-recorded songs, with 452 phonograms identified. Works like “Imagine”, “Come Together” and “Let It Be” also appear highlighted.
Among the performers who most recorded his compositions are names such as his widow, Yoko Onowith 93 records, in addition to David Bowie and Joe Cocker.
John Lennon was murdered on December 8, 1980. As determined by the Brazilian Copyright Law (9610/98), his heirs will receive income in copyright from his songs played in Brazil for 70 years after his death (or from partner authors, in the case of songs made in partnership).
