Season 17 of America has talent it’s full of talented musical acts, to the point than five of the six winners of the golden bell singing or playing instruments. Freckled Zelda may not have gotten the golden bell, but the self-proclaimed “music fairy” wowed the judges with her audition for “Colors of the Wind” by Pocahontas. His performance in the heats attracted less enthusiastic comments from Simon Cowell … but a potential link to Strange things Fan!
For the qualifying performance, Freckled Zelda (whose real name is Rachael Wilson but goes by her stage name AG) expected it to take her to the finale, sang “Never Ending Story” which should be familiar to any fan of the 1984 film, which she called “the OG fantasy movie”, and / or fans of Strange things with whom he saw the third season netflix subscription Yes I saw the duet of Dustin and Suzie .
When the singer spoke to Gossipify and other outlets following her performance in the qualifiers, I noticed that the song resurfaced in popularity when Strange things created season 3 with a nod to The Neverending Storyand she replied and explained why she chose this song:
True! I hope it reaches the Stranger Things audience too! I’m also a huge Stranger Things fan. It’s great that they recreated the song for it … There were so many possibilities, but honestly I wanted a song that fit my universe perfectly. And I felt like ‘Never Ending Story’ did it. It’s a truly magical song and I feel it was the best choice for me tonight.
What better song for a “music fairy” playing ocarina as part of the million dollar prize hunt and Las Vegas stage show of “Never Ending Story” from the rare and famous movie. Conversely, it fits the theme even better than “Colors of the Wind” when it was auditioning.
That said, Simon Cowell wasn’t as thrilled with her performance in qualifiers as she was in auditioning, and Howie Mandel wasn’t as sold like Sofia Vergara and Heidi Klum. Cowell – who talked about the format of the live episode – has already created a stir among fans when she called comedian Lace Larrabee in the middle of her set last week and this time there wasn’t exactly universal public support.
Speaking to the press after the August 16 qualifying episode, she wondered if she would change anything about her performance if she could return, in light of Simon Cowell’s comments:
I am extremely happy with myself. I felt like I did my best, and if I could change one thing it would be: I think the music was a bit overwhelming. A little too loud. But other than that, I feel like I’ve shown the world what kind of fairy I am, and I’m really happy with myself.
Freckles Zelda’s comment that the music “was a little overwhelming” actually echoes one of Cowell’s criticisms, when he said it “got lost in the production”. Heidi Klum came to the singer’s defense saying she wasn’t her fault, but Cowell didn’t seem to regret what she said. His comments didn’t cloud the freckled Zelda’s attitude or point of view about what she had done. She shared the message she would give to others after feeling judged and questioned:
I would tell the world that I’m living the dream, the magical fairy dream, and I feel like I’m showing the world what a music fairy is. I am very happy with myself. You know, Simon and Howie may not have understood me, but who cares? I am living the dream and I am very happy with myself. And I show people their true selves, how to show their true colors. Yes, be you.
It’s nice to know that he maintains his performance despite the less overwhelming praise from the judges. She certainly had the support of the audience, who waved the lights during her song to accompany her cheers and cheers. Also, she was amused at Simon Cowell’s expense when he gave him her ocarina after he spoke out against her using the instrument during her audition. Watch her latest performance of her:
America has talent He wasted no time in revealing whether freckled Zelda and her ocarina would have a chance to perform at least one more time. Viewers had less than twelve hours to vote for their favorites to move on, with announcements starting just 24 hours after the qualifying performances of eleven other acts that had passed the audition.
The competition was tough, with Golden Bell winner Madison Taylor Baez (making her big debut with her audition for “Amazing Grace”. ) and Chapel Hart, with the country group performing a “more naughty” original song than her audition . Breakthrough of Drake Milligan after his decision not to abandon the competition last week proves it AG fans are happy to vote for country artists this season, which perhaps didn’t bode well for Freckled Zelda.
