dragon house is on track to show a whole new side of the Targaryen dynasty that was only mentioned and hinted at in game of Thrones. There are a lot of Targaryens in the upcoming spinoff, but that doesn’t mean the line of succession will be clear-cut. King Viserys (Paddy Considine) must choose between appointing his daughter Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) or her younger brother Daemon (Matt Smith) as his heir to the Iron Throne. While viewers will have to tune in to see who has the best chance, Smith weighed what could bring some serious succession chaos.
Based on the trailer footage from dragon house, Daemon believed himself to be the heir of King VIserys because his brother’s eldest daughter was a girl and no woman had ever sat on the Iron Throne until now. George RR Martin readers fire and blood I have an idea of the general storylines along the way (and Martin had some key details from the book he wanted to include), but there are more questions than answers about Daemon vs. Rhaenyra on the show before the premiere. Matt Smith shared his thoughts with Gossipify on how Daemon would rule:
I think it would be a pretty chaotic empire. [laughs]but it would be fun. Heads were rolling. There are only two people who could get away with it and hers would be her brother to her and Rhaenyra. For the rest, I think it’s all at stake, I think it would be quite anarchic, but you know, who knows? I think it would be a chaotic empire. Certainly. Although very funny.
Any spectator who approaches dragon house from game of Thrones (which is available to stream with an HBO Max subscription) are used to more than a little chaos in the Seven Kingdoms, but it may not be like what Matt Smith describes for his hypothetical King character. Daemon doesn’t seem to have the Targaryen madness like Aerys in the future, and possibly Viserys II (Harry Lloyd) and Daenerys (Emilia Clarke). Just a taste of chaos!
All in all, Daemon seems like a pretty funny character and with a solid claim to the throne based on how the line of succession has worked in Westeros so far. Matt Smith mentioning Daemon’s brother and Rhaenyra as the two people who would get away suggests an interesting relationship with his niece, who is supposedly his biggest rival for the Iron Throne. One thing that is guaranteed (courtesy of the actor) is that fans should expect Daemon sex scenes, but not sexual assault like what happened relatively frequently in game of Thrones.
Whether Daemon becomes king and Matt Smith plays a Targaryen ruler remains to be seen, though Paddy Considine may not have been happy to let someone else sit on the Iron Throne, based on some humorous comments from the cast about being “possessive.” . “”. There seems to be a lot of jokers besides Daemon and Rhaenyra when it comes to the next ruler after King Viserys, including Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) and his wife Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best).
