Singer revisits hits and merges MPB, soul and urban music in an intimate performance that premieres this Tuesday, 28th, at 11am, on the project channel
THE Tiny Desk Brazil welcomes this Tuesday, 28th, one of the most unique voices in Brazilian music: Sky. In the unprecedented episode, which premieres at 11am on the project’s channel, the singer from São Paulo celebrates two decades of her career by revisiting hits and exploring new interpretations of songs that marked her career.
Recorded in an intimate format, the show highlights the artist’s encounter with musicians who have crossed her history. The presentation mixes affection, elegance and contemporary pulse. The repertoire includes emblematic tracks such as “Malemolence“, “Legend“, “Ave Cruz“, “Grains de Beauté“ and “Suspended Balcony“all revisited with new arrangements that reaffirm the versatility of Sky between MPB, trip hop, soul and urban music.
“It was very special to participate in Tiny Desk Brasil, which celebrates the strength of the musician and the music at its roots”, says Céu. “The people present become part of the process and feel, together with the artist, the intimacy of that moment of strength, vulnerability and presence. I loved it.”
Céu: 20 years of trajectory and experimentation
Daughter of musicians and marked by a visceral relationship with art since childhood, Céu released her eponymous debut album in 2005 — a watershed in contemporary MPB. Mixing urban sounds, electronic beats and a delicately powerful voice, the album projected her worldwide and earned her first nominations for Grammy and to Latin Grammy.
Recognized as one of the most inventive artists of her generation, Céu has accumulated awards — including four Multishow Awards trophies and a Latin Grammy for Best Contemporary Pop Album in Portuguese Language with Apká! (2020). Between international tours and striking visual projects, the singer has built a repertoire that reflects the plurality of Brazilian music in the 21st century, without giving up the poetry and introspection that have always guided her work.
In the episode of Tiny Desk Brazilthis trajectory gains a symbolic frame. The reduced format, centered on live performance and the organicity of the instruments, reinforces the essence of Céu’s work: music made of presence, breathing and exchange. Next to Sthe Araujo (percussion), Leonardo Mendes (guitar), Lucas Martins (low), DJ Marco (pick-ups), Ze Red (keyboards) and Pupil (drums), she delivers a cohesive, elegant and emotional performance.
