Spoilers ahead for the August 23 episode. America has talent season 17.
America has talent entered the third week of qualifying with eleven other competitors (including Simon Cowell’s gold buzzer winner) who will be reduced to two at the end of the voting. This episode brought XOMG POP back to life! female group of singers and dancers, consisting of So you think you can dance Judge JoJo Siwa and her mother. Though they brought energy and emotion, Judge Howie Mandel’s comments were not 100% favorable. Speaking with Gossipify, Mandel explained why he wanted to push his comments about him.
XOMG POP! is made up of seven girls aged 10 to 15: Leigha, Kinley, Bella, Tinie T, Dallas, Kiya and Brooklynn. After their original song “Candy Hearts” in May took them to qualifiers, “Merry Go Round” on the August 23rd live show was not an instant hit. Simon Cowell said he “personally” didn’t like the song (although he considered them “unstoppable” with the right material). For his part, Howie Mandel said the tone “hurt him”, but acknowledged that the music of XOMG POP! it’s not for him.
When Mandel (who recently focused on live viewing in person versus home viewing) spoke to Gossipify and other outlets after the live qualifying episode, I said he stressed that he wasn’t the target audience for. XOMG POP. immediately after playing, and he replied:
Which I think is a good thing, right? For example, if you heard that I bought tickets, only my friend Dave and I are buying tickets for XOMG POP! concert, I think it would be a bit confusing.
Since Howie Mandel wasn’t the only one on the jury who didn’t like the song because it wasn’t meant for him, he’d be a little confused! While Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara and Terry Crews go into ecstasy, Mandel sings the praises, citing his granddaughter, who is a fan of the girl group. AG. Asked whether having such an attractive demographic (which clearly doesn’t include Mandel or Simon Cowell) would affect girls’ chances of winning the top prize, Mandel replied:
No, because I think there is a large audience of that age and class looking at this and calling and voting. That’s why I wanted to take stock. I want to be authentic on the show and say, ‘Wow, that was great! And I love this song! And I love it! ‘ It is not aimed at me. But I wanted to take stock, and it’s true, I wasn’t making up anything: my seven-year-old niece Abby doesn’t go to the show. She has no interest. The only act she sat on until the end that she keeps asking me questions about is XOMG. Everyone, and I’m like, ‘Don’t you want to see Grandpa? You can not see me? She has no interest. So, to tell you how it affects the audience, I thought it was a positive and honest judgment.
Howie Mandel’s comments were not intended to discourage voters from supporting XOMG POP! or say that the women’s group did not deliver their energetic performance, even though they weren’t thrilled with it as some of their fellow judges said. (My favorite was Heidi Klum saying “It’s like a piñata exploding and seven little Spice Girls falling out of it.” If only Mel B. had been around hearing it like the good old days!)
Not the biggest XOMG POP fan! in the world, but it seems that they would get all the votes from his niece. Even if the majority of the voting audience is not within the target demographic for that group of girls, there may still be enough audience to qualify for the finals. Check out their “Merry Go Round” performance which will decide if they still have a $ 1 million chance and show in Las Vegas or if they go home:
This group of girls will continue to haunt them AG dream, or will his journey in season 17 end before his time? His fate is in the hands of the fans, who can vote officially America has talent application e the NBC.com voting page until 7:00 am ET on Wednesday, August 24. The results episode will start at 8pm.
It’s hard to say for sure who will advance, although I may need to reevaluate my ranking America has talent Golden Buzzer winners are very likely to win after seeing Sara James tear down the house with her portrayal of Elton John’s “Rocket Man” as the evening’s final act. Ventriloquist Celia Muñoz was a jury favorite with her tribute to Great and the late Olivia Newton-John and Howie Mandel predicted that magician Nicolas Ribs could win all season after seeing his latest performance.
