The third qualifying week for America has talent Season 17 brought some talented singers including Golden Ringer winner Sara James and seven-person girl group XOMG POP! after the success of their auditions. Seventeen-year-old rock star Mia Morris is also back, after her performance of an original song by a girl group earned her the opportunity to take another step towards the final. Her second original song of hers, which she performed on August 23 of hers using her musical instruments and her looper, didn’t go as well with the judges, and she has since explained why she will never do it again. . .
Although Heidi Klum and Sofia Vergara had mostly favorable comments about Mia Morris, Simon Cowell and Howie Mandel were less favorable. Cowell said he “didn’t like the song” and that her voice was “wrong”, even though he gave her credit for not putting in and making a safe version of the song. . He said it was “a fantastic mess,” but he considered it a good thing.
Howie Mandel also received praise before the reviews began, calling her a “rock star” and an amazing musician and performer. She then said that she didn’t know if she was an amazing singer or songwriter and suggested that she should go for a version of the song as a safer option. Speaking with Gossipify and other outlets after his performance in the qualifiers, he assessed whether he was still happy to have made an original:

While artists like Sara James (who closed the night with a performance of “Rocket Man” which showed why she got Simon Cowell’s gold buzzer) were fan favorites with the covers, two of them AGThe finalists have so far gotten enough votes for the ending with the originals. Drake Milligan still has a chance to get $ 1 million and the Las Vegas stage show after deciding not to give up, and Chapel Hart blew up last week with an even bolder original song than the first. Mia Morris also believes that the original songs are important and she doesn’t regret performing her “We Were Never Friends” lei.
In fact, Mia Morris already has experience of staying true to herself in the face of criticism. Despite the fact that she is only 17, she has been sharing her music with the world for a long time and that meant the inevitable: nasty comments on YouTube. The musician explained how she gets rid of the negative comments:
Hate and harshness are everywhere. I mean, I’ve been posting videos on YouTube since I was 10 or 11. So I’ve always received hate comments. that I can understand perfectly [is] because facing these judges and getting feedback from them can be daunting because they are the judges, but they are just people. You know, we are all human and everyone has their own opinion. So, if you are satisfied with your performance and who you are, you shouldn’t allow anyone else to influence that opinion about you.
My Morris was still nearly 24 hours away from knowing if America has talent fans had voted her in the final (even without being able to see her live in person), but she shared that being happy with herself is more important than what the judges had to say. She also spent a pretty crazy night, with the magician Nicolás Ribs, the Cline Twins as hockey stick manipulators and ventriloquist Celia Muñoz with a Great and homage to Olivia Newton-John.
