Pop stars no longer hide their nerdy side: while Henry Cavill and Ana Maria Braga are open gamers, the singer Post Malone uses fame and fortune to fuel his passion for the card game Magic the Gathering.

And that’s no small feat: the singer revealed in an interview on Howard Stern’s radio show that he recently spent $ 800,000 on a single letter from the popular trading card game. Okay, it wasn’t just any card, but a Black Lotus, one of the rarest cards in the card game, signed by artist Chris Rush, who designs the illustration of the now deceased card. Rush was one of the 25 original Magic the Gathering artists.

The Black Lotus card has been out of circulation since 1994

Black Lotus is considered to be the most sought after non-promotional card in Magic the Gathering history. Card was relatively common in the early days of the game, with some players building decks of up to 20 of them. However, as the years went by and the rules changed, the card did not return in subsequent sets – Black Lotus has been absent from the game since the release of the Unlimited set in 1994.

Since it is very difficult to find such a card in good condition, it has become an object of desire for collectors such as Post Malone.
