Slipknot’s Jim Root Criticizes Rage Against The Machine: ‘People Are Tired Of Politics’

For Jim Root, Rage Against the Machine contradicts itself and tells people to obey the rules

Jim Rootguitarist of Slipknotcriticized the Rage Against the Machine in an interview with music radar (via NME). According to the musician, the track’s message “Killing in the Name” is “in reverse.”

With references to abuse of power and other problems in American society, the song became an anthem of protest. Tom Morelloin 2020, highlighted how the line “F*ck you, I won’t do what you tell me” remains a “universal sentiment ,” despite its simplicity.

“When I hear a band that says ‘Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me’ telling me to do what the government says, that sounds wrong to me,” he continued, in clear reference to the group of Zack de la Rocha and Tom Morello.

“I think people are fucking tired of sociopolitical content because we’re just hammered with it, both in the newspapers and on social media, things like that. At concerts, most people just want to shut down, forget about the world for a while. and have fun,” he added.
