Globetrotter Cannon was created by Luiz Amorim and contains the signature of 27 great violinists.
Each violin is unique. And, says luthier Luiz Amorim, his builder deserves to do everything possible to extract his voice and allow the instrument to speak according to the best it can offer.
In the case of his latest creation, however, it is not just the sound that distinguishes him. Il Cannone Giramondo has the signature of twenty-seven of the greatest violinists in the world: Joshua Bell, Francesca Dego, Shlomo Mintz, Maxim Vengerov, Augustin Hadelich, Ilya Gringolts, Julia Fischer, Frank Peter Zimmermann and Daniel Hope among them.
Everyone has decided to participate in the project around a cause: the violin will be auctioned on Monday 24 in Berlin and the amount obtained will be entirely donated to the Instituto Baccarelli, a project of musical training and social inclusion in the community of Heliópolis, in San Paul.
Trajectory
Amorim Fine Violins began its trajectory in Brazil, but since 2015 it has been based in Cremona, Italy, the city where Amati, Stradivari and Guarneri, legendary makers of violins, violas and cellos worked.
In addition to restoration and creation, Amorim has specialized in copying famous instruments. This is the case of the Cannone, obtained from a Guarneri del Gesù of 1743, which belonged to the violinist Niccolò Paganini.
“The project was born from our desire to help a social project in Brazil at a particularly difficult time,” says Luan Amorim, Luiz’s son – the company is all family run, from studio work to marketing and sales. “My 11-year-old son Gael was already assembling his first instruments,” jokes Luiz. “And the result was very good.”
The auction ends this afternoon in Berlin, morning in Brazil. The initial estimate suggested by the Tarisio auction house, which specializes in the sale of instruments, is around 15,000-22,000 euros. But the expectation is that the final price can reach four times this value.
“It was very easy to get all these great violinists involved in the project,” says Luiz. “I think only one was not interested,” he says, not mentioning his name. “At the same time, many people learned about it and got in touch asking to participate. I think the possibility of combining art and social interest moved them a lot. This makes the Globetrotter Cannon a very special, unique tool.”
