Rihanna releases music video for “Black Panther 2”

Rihanna has released the music video for “Lift Me Up”, a song that is part of the soundtrack of the movie “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”. The video takes the artist to a beach, by the sea, and includes scenes from the film.

Long awaited by fans, the song has little to do with the rapper’s best-known repertoire. It is almost a conventional Disney cinematic ballad, with an orchestral arrangement and tearful intonation to evoke sadness, which could be recorded by Christina Aguilera without belittling the current result too much. The difference, of course, is the vulgarity, which Rihanna does not give up.

“Lift Me Up” is Rihanna’s first release since 2016, when she released the single “Love on the Brain”, and was composed by Rihanna herself in collaboration with singer Tems, singer-songwriter Ludwig Göransson (Oscar winner for “Black Panther”) and director Ryan Coogler (responsible for the two hero films).

The mournful tone is a tribute to actor Chadwick Boseman (star of the first “Black Panther”), who passed away in 2020.

Released this Friday (28/10) on the music platforms, the clip and the single interrupt a long musical break for the singer, who in the last six and a half years has dedicated herself to other projects, such as her make-up brand, Fenty Beauty , and lingerie brand Savage X Fenty, as well as giving birth to her first child last May. To celebrate her return, she will also perform at half-time for the upcoming Super Bowl, the final of the American football championship, scheduled for February 12.

The premiere of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is scheduled for November 10 in Brazil, one day before its US release.
