Placebo asks fans not to film during concerts: ‘Enjoy the moment’

For Placebo, using a cell phone to film and photograph concerts interferes with the experience

Placebo made a request to the public ahead of the group’s next round of live shows. On the social networks, Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal asked fans not to use cell phones to film and photograph performances.

The reason is quite simple and follows a trend pointed out by other artists, such as Bjork: Devices can distract attention and make the public not enjoy the moment as they could. Check the statement:

“Dear fans of Placebo, we kindly ask that you not spend the entire show filming and taking photos with your cell phones. It makes the band’s performance much more difficult. It’s harder to connect with you guys and effectively communicate the emotion of the songs. It’s also disrespectful to the rest of the audience who want to watch the show and not their screen.”

“Please be here and now, in the present, and enjoy the moment. Because that exact moment will never happen again. Our purpose is to create communication and transcendence. Please help us in this mission. With respect and love.”

The band is touring with their most recent album, Never Let Me Go, and should play shows in Europe at this early stage. In an intimate presentation to launch the project, the band asked that everyone using cell phones during the show be escorted out by security. In the comments, the public questioned the band’s decision and motives, as members don’t seem concerned with saying “hi,” or “bye” during performances.
