Seattle native Jimi Hendrix grew up a shy and reserved boy but soon became a successful guitarist.
On November 27, 1942, the city of Seattle met the little James Marshall Hendrix, a quiet boy with a passion for music. Little did his parents know that that baby would soon become one of the greatest guitarists in rock history.
Very shy and sensitive, James began to show an interest in notes, melodies and instruments at the age of 10. At that time, he played his imaginary guitar with the help of a broom and dreamed of illuminated stages.

At age 11, the young man got his first guitar, a slightly cheaper version that fit in his father’s pocket. The following year, he got his hands on the first guitar of his life and, before long, he started playing in amateur bands.
There, in a simple house with lawn and garden, star Jimi Hendrix was born. Before quiet and reserved, the boy now gave way to an expansive, creative and extravagant guitarist.
multitasking
Jimi grew up with his family in one of the best areas of Seattle, which, in the midst of racial segregation, was considered a black neighborhood. Always a great companion, he dropped out of high school in his last year and started working with his father.
Eventually, Jimi found gardening boring and exhausting and looked for ways to change his routine a little. So, in 1963, he decided he was going to join the military and serve the US state.
After 14 months of military service, the aspiring musician moved to England in 1966. He had injured his back in a parachute jump and was therefore discharged from the army.
From Seattle to the world
On September 24 of that same year, Jimi was having fun at the Scotch of St James nightclub, in London, when he met Kathy Etchingham. The attraction was immediate and, at the age of 20, the young woman felt butterflies in her stomach when she was next to the star.
At that point in the championship, Jimi was already a recognized guitarist in the music business and, with so many shows, his personality slowly changed. On television, the Hendrix family followed the daring gestures taking care of the young musician.
