Use of ‘Master of Puppets’ was one of the highlights of the fourth season of Stranger Things

One of the big pop culture milestones in 2022 was the use of “Master of Puppets,” hit do metallicain the fourth season of Stranger Thingsone of the main series of Netflix🇧🇷 now the drummer Lars Ulrich explained why the iconic band allowed the use of the song in the streaming series.

During an interview with The Howard SternShow, the musician explained how the band has changed its own licensing policy for other projects in recent years. “It used to be, with the metallica, we were always the ‘no’ guys,” he stated. “‘Hey, can we have this song for this? Can we have this song for that?’ It was just no, no, no, no, no.”

“And a few years ago, we sort of reversed that. We did a 180. We just said, ‘You know what? This is stupid. Why are we holding on to these songs like they’re so important, like they’re the gems? of the crown?’ Let’s share our music with the world,” continued Ulrich🇧🇷 “Then a few years ago we started saying yes to everything.”

Furthermore, the drummer recalled how the production team of Stranger Things “wanted to build this whole scene around ‘Master of Puppets‘” – and the band agreed to the plan. “It was so f*** to see how this became a phenomenon, and we were so proud.”

I mean, who would have thought 40 years later that these songs could still have that impact? So we were excited to be a part of that for sure. It was so unexpected.

With the success of the scene, “Master of Puppets” became the first song on the metallica in the UK Top 40 in 14 years. Furthermore, the band entered the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time – and the song peaked at No. 35. Track numbers, on streaming platforms, also increased significantly.
