The Rolling Stones celebrate 60 years with a commemorative coin


British Mint launches a collector’s item featuring the band’s silhouette image

AP – They want the money, that’s what they want, that’s what they want. Well, now the Rolling Stones they too can say they’re good, on the face of a new collector’s coin issued by the Mint of Great Britain to commemorate the band’s 60th anniversary.

The new £5 ($6.04) coin features a projected image of the iconic band playing – the singer Mick Jaggerthe guitarists Keith Richards And Ronnie Wood and the late drummer Charlie Watts – as well as the band’s name with the classic 1973 design. The mint said it was one of the last coins of the year to be issued with the image of Queen Elizabeth II, who died in September at the age of 96.

The Rolling Stones kicked off their European tour this year Sixty in 2022, concluding in Berlin in August.

“We are delighted to be honored with the official currency of the UK,” the band said in a statement included in the Royal Mint announcement. “Even more significant that the launch coincides with our 60th anniversary.”

The new coin is the fifth in the UK’s Music Legends series, which celebrates legendary British artists. Other honorees were Regina, Elton John, David Bowie And WHO🇧🇷

Even if the best things in life are free, as the Stones sang in their cover of the Motown hit Money (that’s what I want), coins will cost something. Similar coins on the Music Legends Series mint website range from 15 pounds ($18.12) to 465 pounds ($561.92).

“Our Music Legends series is creating a new generation of coin collectors,” said Rebecca Morgan, Director of Collection Services at The Royal Mint. “We hope this provides a fitting tribute to the band’s 60 years of rock and roll for their millions of fans around the world…The Rolling Stones are UK rock legends and we expect this coin to be incredibly sought after by collectors of coins and music lovers.”

“The coin is also one of the last to be issued featuring an effigy of the late HM Queen Elizabeth II, marking a significant moment in history,” Morgan added in the statement.
