Photo of John Lennon naked cuddling Yoko Ono was taken hours before his death
A January 1981 issue of the magazine Rolling Stone goes to auction. In the cover image we have John Lennon naked embraced with Yoko Ono, the This edition has become a rare collector’s item over the last four decades, but according to Rolling Stone USA, copies have been discovered and will be auctioned with 100% of the proceeds to combat gun violence prevention.
The photo was taken by the photographer Annie Leibowitz hours before the ex-Beatle was murdered by a fan in the entrance of his apartment building in New York.
“The session took place in a bright, sunny room overlooking the park,” he recalled. Yoko Ono in 2004 for the Rolling Stone USA🇧🇷 “We were feeling comfortable because it was Annie, a person we respected and trusted, so John seemed to have no problem taking off her clothes.”
The month following the death of Lennon, magazines and newspapers were ready to pay tribute to the singer, however, the Rolling Stone edition of that month gained prominence for containing the image with nothing written on the cover. In 2005, it was chosen as the best magazine cover of the last 40 years by American Society of Magazine Editors.
