RS: What are your expectations with the music being the soundtrack of the soap opera?
Roberta Campos: This is my twenty-first song on a soap opera soundtrack! The first time took place in 2011, in Workouton Rede Globo, then I had songs at other times and also on other television stations.
It’s amazing! The way people listen to music with a story, with an image, takes them to a different place than when they only listen to the audio, and this is very interesting! In addition to all the prestige of trust in such a large project, linking your name, your art to it.
I help describe the scenes where my songs are present and that is great for me! As grand as it was, having for the first time the invitation to do this reinterpretation of the song “Luminate” in Beto Guedes and Ronaldo Bastos exclusively for the novel “Go in Faith”.
The other times my songs were chosen after they were ready, now the emotion was different, especially when it comes to such a choice. I love this song. the disk of Beto GuedesThe Page of Electric Lightning is my favorite and “Luminate” is one of my most beloved songs on that album.
RS: What was it like recreating the track?
Without losing the essence of the composition, I took it to a sunnier, lighter and more acoustic path. I brought the song to my world, as I always do with the reinterpretations I record! I love doing this, I come from the school of bars, I played a lot at night and since then I’ve already reread all the songs I played, it’s my thing. I don’t even know how to copy, I always play the songs my way and that helps me to do these re-recordings, effortlessly, I just let my heart connect with the song and take me to the place where it lives in me! It’s like I’m composing together with the person who made it!
RS: What were the inspirations for the new version?
I already knew how the telenovela would be, that the music is the theme of the character of Caroline Dieckmannwhich in the plot is called “Luminate” because of the music. They also gave me the mood of the center where Carolina will work more, which is in Nova Friburgo, in Rio de Janeiro. A bucolic place, full of nature, birds, water, a happy place!
That was the first step to inspire me to make this new arrangement, along with what the lyrics say. It has a very positive, radiant message, it gives me a good feeling, so I transformed the minor chords into major ones at the end of the phrases, and gave the music a little more lightness, leaving the original arrangement – beautiful, by the way, more psychedelic .
RS: What was it like for you to record such an important song in Beto Guedes’ career?
To enter the work of Beto Guedes and live that moment inside. As I said, the disk on which glow it belongs, it’s my favorite album, so besides being a gift for my life, it’s an honor for me!
RS: When was the first time you heard it?
One day I was in a used bookstore here in São Paulo and I started to buy some vinyl records, that’s when I found several vinyls from Beto Guedes that I didn’t even have The Page of Electric Lightning was among my finds. From this album, I only knew the song “Solidarity Mary” in the voice of Milton Nascimento. Besides, it was all new! Attracted by the record’s suggestive name, I fell in love with everything I heard! That was my first encounter with LIGHT.
