The Best Original Song category of the Oscars 2023 features a mix of genres and styles.
On the one hand there are internationally renowned big stars such as Lady Gaga and Rihanna, nominated for “Hold My Hand” (composed for the film “Top Gun: Maverick”) and “Lift Me Up” (from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ” ), respectively.
But also the song “Naatu Naatu”, composed by the Indian MM Keeravaani for the funny film “RRR”, and Son Lux, whose song “This is a Life” is almost as strange as the film it was composed for: ” Everything everywhere at the same time”.
Finally, the nomination of pop singer Sofia Carson and her song, “Applause,” comes as a surprise, since the movie packaged “Tell It Like a Woman” received no other nominations.
The Academy Awards ceremony will take place on March 12 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, USA, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
