Director Kevin Smith (“Dogma”) directed the video for rapper Logic’s “Highlife”. The clip takes place in an environment well known to fans of the director – the Quick Stop convenience store, which was the setting for the “Clerks” franchise.
In the clip, Logic becomes a character in the stories of “The Clerk”, interacting with classic characters from the franchise, including Smith himself (in the role of Silent Bob), Brian O’Halloran (Dante), Jeff Anderson (Randal), Jason Mewes (Jay), Matt Ranieri (Mooby) and Ernie O’Donnell (Coach).
Logic is a big fan of Kevin Smith’s work. He was even invited to participate in “O Balconista 3” via a private message on Instagram, but he ended up not seeing the message in time. However, the two started talking and became friends which culminated in this partnership.
“Highlife” is the new single from Logic and is taken from his eighth studio album, “College Park”, which will be released on February 24th. The album title refers to the Maryland city where he wrote and recorded raps in 2011. The new album will celebrate the rapper’s artistic journey as well as his new beginnings.
Kevin Smith directed “The Clerk” in 1993, using the money raised from the sale of his comic book collection to finance the film. Besides being a success that boosted his career, the feature film spawned two sequels released in 2006 and 2022.
