Doc McGhee reinforced that the band is retiring, but adopted an enigmatic tone when he said: ‘It’s the end of Kiss as we know it’
Some fans remain confused about the retirement of the kiss. The band announced a farewell tour, end of the roadstill in 2018, starting in 2019. However, they were forced to take a break of more than a year due to the pandemic.
As of 2021 (when the tour would originally end), they resumed their schedule and came to Brazil the following year, after successive postponements. They would be the last shows in the country, but the group will return in 2023 for another sequence of presentations.
In previous interviews, the musicians made it clear that they extended their plans with the final tour not only because of the pandemic that took them off the road for more than a year, but because of the interest of the public and event promoters in booking more dates. Still, they will stop – and it is already known that this will happen in 2023.
The information was revealed by the group’s manager, Doc McGheein an interview with the podcast rock city transcribed by blabbermouth. And it won’t be long until the band’s final commitments are explained to fans.
“We will make an announcement probably in the next few days. One thing about KISS is that we’ve always been that band that goes places that most bands don’t go. So we played in everybody’s city. Just name a city and we’ll tell you we played there,” he said.
So we always go where the people are. The reason we keep doing this last leg of the tour is because obviously the pandemic prevented us from finishing. And the fact that people wanted to see us. But we had to break up at some point – and it will be this year.
Kiss still with other members?
Over the years, leaders of the kiss, Paul Stanley (voice and guitar) and Gene Simmons (vocals and bass), gave several statements to the press where they hinted that the band could continue with other members after they retired. The group would be transformed into a kind of “franchise” in this case.
Doc McGhee was asked about this possibility in an interview. The businessman, of course, preferred not to rule anything out, but assured that the legacy will continue to be explored in the following years.
There is a lot of talk about everything. And nobody knows what will happen in the future. So what we put in our minds was: let’s go through this like it’s the end of the day. kiss as we know it. And whatever comes our way, technology and all, we’re going to look at that. It will be Gene It is paul out there wearing makeup? No, I can guarantee that. They’ll be hanging up their boots after the show [final]which is going to be very difficult and exciting for them after 50 years of doing this.
The manager also highlighted how Stanley It is simmons love to work with kiss, which he hasn’t always seen in other bands he’s managed: “Most of my bands say, ‘I hate this, I don’t want to go around anymore, I don’t want to do this, it’s silly to go on.’ Paul and Gene are not like that. They’re not like that. love it. They thrive on it. We have a lot of fun on the road. It’s more like, ‘Why are we breaking up?’ But it’s because it’s time to end.”
That’s it: 50 years of kiss. And now they go to the next phase of whatever they want to do, be it Gene Simmons in business, having a country named after him, Gene Simmons WorldI don’t know, we don’t know. paul has four children, three at home. […] But for me, kiss it’s like the Marvel. There are all kinds of things that can happen to kiss – and probably will. So it’s a new frontier starting in 2024.
