The singer and songwriter Nina Fernando celebrates this Friday (10), the release of the video clip of his most recent single, I can be whoever I wantthe last of the trilogy which also features the songs the same day AND Hyphenate. The three songs can be heard on all digital platforms. The clip will be available from 11 on the artist’s official YouTube channel.
“I wrote this song thinking a lot about my childhood, about my return to the smells, sensations and emotions of that time. I’m in a phase where I need to look back to understand who I am and why I am like this, what I like and what I don’t like about myself… what I like or don’t like about my parents, my past, my family, my traumas, everything that binds me to myself. Only in this way will we be able to understand each other, pacify our our feelings and it can be what we want – with what we have and what we already are”ends Nina.
Not surprisingly, the clip carries several images from childhood of Nina at different ages and stages of life: “I wanted to look for images from my childhood because this is a song about intimacy, about welcoming the shell, from my childhood home. And a song represents self-knowledge”explains the artist.
For the curious no, the filming location is not the real house it overlooks Nina speak in the letter. Many of her belongings were transported there, but the house, which looks like a grandmother’s house, is where the studio is located. 12 buckswhere, not surprisingly, the song was recorded.
I can be whoever I want was produced by the winner of Latin Grammy Felipe Vassão (who had previously worked with the singer on the track the same day), next to Nina herself and Pedro Serapico.
The song completes the trilogy from which it began the same day performed by Hyphenate. If they fail to tell a linear story, the three tracks released by Nina Fernando in the last months of 2022 they travel in the same musical universe and revolve around complementary themes such as loneliness, love and self-knowledge.
