Streaming service Netflix released the fourth and final season of Spanish comedy series Muertos S.L. on August 7, 2026, wrapping up the workplace sitcom.

The final release consists of six episodes, bringing the show to a conclusion with 26 total episodes across four seasons.

Created by siblings Alberto Caballero and Laura Caballero, the series was acquired by Netflix in the summer of 2025. The acquisition took place one year after the show originally premiered on Spanish subscription broadcaster Movistar Plus.

Workplace humor inside Torregrosa funeral home

Set inside Torregrosa Funeral Home, known natively as Funeraria Torregrosa, the series follows the daily operations and internal rivalries of a family run funeral business in Spain. Laura Caballero directed the series, establishing a style compared by critics to the fictional Dunder Mifflin office from the American television series The Office.

The narrative centers on modern workplace dynamics and social commentary. Writing across the final six episodes addresses themes including employment insecurity, labor relations, subtle sexism, mental health challenges, and corporate ambition.

Every episode of the series incorporates a post-credits scene that provides a final comedic punchline. Reviewer Javier Corpas noted that the production team maintained a fast-paced comedic style throughout the final run.

Character storylines and cast performances

The cast features Diego Martín as an ambitious character described as an entrepreneurship addict who becomes a central figure in the workplace dynamics. Actor Carlos Areces plays Dámaso, a senior employee whose ongoing struggle to become director of the funeral home forms a recurring storyline.

Areces' character undergoes a repetitive narrative cycle compared to the mythical figure Sisyphus. In the fourth season, Dámaso attempts to navigate a new initiative known as Chemi's 2030 Agenda. The storyline results in Dámaso being sent to Oca prison, returning his career back to the beginning.

Actress Ascen López, who portrayed the character Nieves, died several weeks prior to the premiere of the fourth season. The season also features reduced appearances from Amaia Salamanca, alongside performances by Bárbara Santa-Cruz and Lucía Quintana as the daughters of Nieves.

The ensemble cast is completed by Salva Reina, Aitziber Garmendia, Gerard B. Fillmore, Lorea Intxausti, and Manolo Cal.

Unresolved plotlines and sudden cancellation

The series ends with several narrative arcs left unfulfilled following Netflix's decision to conclude the show. A planned legal dispute involving Dámaso and Torregrosa Funeral Home was left without an onscreen resolution.

Corpas reported that the narrative appears to have been designed for further seasons before being brought to an abrupt stop. Plotlines involving Salamanca's character and the daughters of Nieves were similarly condensed within the final six episodes.

Legacy of the Caballero brothers

Creators Alberto Caballero and Laura Caballero previously produced two of Spain's most successful television comedies, Aquí no hay quien viva and La que se avecina. Both series launched more than two decades ago and established the siblings as prominent figures in Spanish television production.

While La que se avecina has surpassed 200 episodes across platforms Mediaset and Prime Video, Muertos S.L. ends its broadcast run at 26 episodes. Corpas compared the tone of the final farewell to the Sevillana del adiós, a traditional Spanish song associated with bittersweet partings.
