Kim Kardashian has left some fans groaning with dismay after her 13-year-old daughter, North West, appeared with a different-looking nose in a heavily-filtered video on TikTok.
North, whose father is the rapper and Kardashian's third ex-husband Kanye West, posted the clip this week to the joint TikTok account she shares with her mother. The video-sharing platform is immensely popular with teenagers and is frequently used by celebrity families to connect with younger audiences.
The teenager, who is a budding musician, appeared in the video wearing a long blue wig, trendy goth makeup and a black leather outfit. She joyfully danced around to the classic 2006 single SOS by the pop star Rihanna. The track, which was Rihanna's first number one single in the United States, remains a staple of 2000s pop music.
North is known for her interest in beauty products and is fond of experimenting with cosmetics on herself, her family and her friends.
However, the appearance of the 13-year-old's nose drew the immediate attention of some viewers, who shared their scandalized reactions in the comments section.
One observer wrote in a comment viewed by The US Sun: "Her contouring her beautiful nose is making me really upset. What is happening here??"
Another commenter placed the blame on the teenager's famous family, sniffing: "Poor kid that she got influenced by her relatives to believe her face is not pretty enough as it is /: Bad parenting."
The Daily Mail has contacted a representative for Kardashian to request comment. Kardashian, a businesswoman who rose to global fame on the reality series Keeping Up with the Kardashians, has frequently spoken about being her daughter's primary guardian.
Fans defend teenager's fashion choices
Despite the criticism, North was firmly defended by her supporters. Many fans argued that the teenager was simply exploring her personal style, a common phase for young adolescents.
One fan wrote with a set of praying hands emoji: "be nice guys she has the comments on."
Other viewers related to the teenager's alternative fashion choices. One user giggled and wrote, "I also had a Hot topic phase," referring to the prominent American retail chain known for selling counterculture and music-inspired clothing.
Another fan expressed envy over the teenager's resources, writing: "Man i wish i had that budget at 13 when i had an alt phase, yall dont get it."
A further commenter mounted a spirited argument in favor of the goth look. They wrote: "y'all obviously didn't have an alt phase when u were 13 and it shows. imagine having an alt phase as a 13 year old with UNLIMITED BUDGET AND CONNECTIONS."
The user added: "of course she wants to express herself let her be. nothing about this is inappropriate."
History of piercing controversies
North, who recently embarked on her own music career, previously ignited a social media firestorm in August 2025 when she revealed she had obtained a dermal piercing.
The piercing consisted of two small metal balls placed under a knuckle on the middle finger of her right hand.
Dermal piercings are distinct from other piercings. Instead of passing completely through a piece of tissue, a tiny anchor is hooked underneath the skin and used to keep the jewelry in place on the surface.
As a result, dermal piercings come with specific risks, including keloid scarring, infection and, if improperly looked after, even rejection by the wearer's body.
Kardashian was raked over the coals by critics at the time for allowing her daughter to get a dermal piercing at such a young age.
However, North responded to the backlash in December by posting another TikTok video. In the clip, she mimed to an audio sound-byte that said: "Why are you crying? How old are you? Just pull it together."
The teenager added a caption to the video that read: "this is for everyone that's mad over a finger piercing."
Undeterred by the brickbats her mother was receiving from the public, North apparently unveiled two further dermal finger piercings on her Instagram Stories in January.
Music career and family collaborations
In May, the teenager dropped a music video for her first solo single, titled #N0rth4evr. In the footage, she was shown strolling through a graveyard with two stick-on piercings under one of her eyes, and another placed near the top of her nose.
Much of the music video was intentionally grainy and choppy. The visual style served as a nod to "found footage" horror movies like the 1999 hit The Blair Witch Project and the 2007 film Paranormal Activity, which popularized the amateur recording aesthetic.
Her follow-up single was a collaboration with Lil Novi, a fellow "nepo baby". The phrase is a colloquial term for the children of celebrities who benefit from nepotism in the entertainment industry.
The 16-year-old rapper is the son of the rap legend Lil Wayne and the R&B songstress Nivea, who achieved mainstream success in the early 2000s.
